For the next few weeks I’ll work a couple days a week and reduce that down through the transition and September 11, or before, will be my last day of gainful employment. I hope not having a job will be everything I expected

Wish ya well hogging! My step-dad finally retired in late March after running a very successful business for 50 years, this ol world's a changing and he finally decided he'd had enough, and i don't blame him! He'd been running a business since he was 22 years old.

My luck has been so bad lately, it could be raining pussies and I'd catch one with a dick broke off in it.

Congrats. I started mine end of June. I ain't missed work one bit. Get you a calendar to keep track of what day it is. I love working on my piece of land for a couple days. Heck I'm doing more physical work now, but I love it. Then recuperate with a nap WHENEVER I want. Rinse, and repeat.

Im the same way. Haven't missed work one minute. Plenty to keep me busy around my house.

I didn't go out my way, disability got me. Putting to much work in too hard. 5 years on 3rd and 22 yes of getting up at 330 I had a heart attack, heart disease, and later epilepsy from a treestand fall that never healed in my brain. I've basically got a black blob like a deep bruise that never drained off. Normal most days, seizures sometimes, balancing issues other times. I still hate that dam place. Others that have left say I don't miss the work I missed my friends. If you was my friend up there, I've already got your number. Not my retirement, but that's what my buddies say,!!! Good friends. Making a joke to make me laugh.

Love a good hunting story, love my family and friends. Some people you can't, but acted like do.

It depends on how you do it. I know Boho and I have been having the time of our lives for the past 3 years. It has been a grand adventure so far.

I would say right off the bat, don't go into this new phase of your life thinking that you have to have something to do all the time. Take the time to let your new life develop naturally. Of course do the things you want to do, but explore some other stuff that you never thought about doing. Explore parts of the country you've never seen. Take slow trips in the car with very little planning and just a general idea of where you want to go and what you want to see, slow down, meet people, eat and stay at out of the way places. Travel, especially slow travel, can change your life and open your eyes to things you've never thought about before.

Leading up to retirement, I had this list of things I was going to do, places I wanted to go, and things I wanted to accomplish. Yes I have done some of those things, but there is a bunch of stuff I haven't done on that list. There is also a bunch of stuff that I never even thought about doing, like filming a TV show or buying a beach house that were nowhere on my radar that we have done that have been greatly rewarding.

Whatever you do, don't get attached to that recliner. Go out and seize the day. There will be plenty of time for the recliner in the "no go" years.

Echoing everything Irish said, of course! The ONLY thing I would MAKE myself do is exercise and learn something all the time, daily. Looking back to when I "stepped off the cliff," there were lots more hub bub around that day of such finality than it seemed to deserve. In other words, there was some anticlimactic feelings. Maybe it's because my contract ended, we were working from home and it was just a silent sailing off into the sunset type of feeling for me. I hope you blow it all out!

No kidding about the exercise! I see new guys and gals coming into the gym down here and they get the manager to show them how to use machines (which are intimidating to me!) and get a routine of movement. And make sure you get plenty of sun on your skin especially during winter. I know it's crazy that I'm telling you that now but it will stave off any little depression that might try to creep in.

Has the show of yall buying the beach house already aired on TV?
