Something else about the cows too is that having prime soil like they do and the ability to irrigate…..I would think you would be able to run a pretty high end cattle operation that made way more money than selling bison hunts…….That’s just a guess but once the understory is converted into optimal conditions you’re gonna be pushing out a lot of high quality forage for a grazing herd as well…….
With that being said though……if you could keep them contained and you could keep it from being a dangerous situation to work around……and you could sell bison hunts for enough $$$ to justify the money you could have made otherwise on cows……..Then 100% turn a bunch of bison loose and just let them do their thing……A little trial and error at first should be easy enough to hone in on an ideal population level

HB is a special place. John McInnis, owner of Flora-Bama and CoastAL, bought it last year.

Somebody get us a feller-buncher and some cows and we can turn that ^^^^^^ into some sho nuff good deer hunting..... What about some buffalo? I may know a guy I keep debating the pros and cons of using them jokers…..It would by far be the coolest way of doing it…….right up until the day somebody got charged by one or they got out, etc……I was watching a video on a guy that keeps a big herd and apparently one of the issues in keeping them contained is dispersing males…..He said they respected the fence just fine until the day that one of these males gets run off or goes on that dispersal journey and then they just walk right through the fence like it aint there and keep going…..I forget exactly but he alleviated the issue by managing for a young male age structure I think it was…….He said it cut down on most of that happening The bigger point being though that there’s gonna be more to dealing with bison than what it may be worth versus just going with cows and it not being quite as cool but being much simpler to manage……I mean you could do it with bison but you would basically be accepting up front that at some point “chit is gonna happen”……Probably be well worth forming some contingency plans is all I’m saying Those jokers are mean! The neighbor has had them flip four wheelers/sxs, charge trucks/tractors and almost kill their dogs several times. One got out of the fence one time and I thought it would be a good idea to try to corral it with the front end loader, it finally got pissed and charged lol you probably better stick to cows

I think he has owned it for about 3 years now. John is an incredible guy with a great vision. He really uses what the Lord has blessed him with to further the kingdom. 270wsm do you know John? If you do we probably know a lot of the same people.

CNC I will run it by them and see what they say about the buffalo and changing what they are doing as far as the recipe for big deer. I’m sure they will jump in buying enough buffalo for 20k acres.

CNC you should come to one of the retreats next spring Whenever you get the details and dates for the retreats please post them up. There will be two in October of this year. Oct. 6-9 and Oct 13-16. They are men’s retreats and they are centered around finding true rest in Christ. They will start having them again in March 2027. They will do 2 men’s retreats a month, and then do 1 pastor retreat or marriage retreat each month. They will go through October. If anyone wants any further details you can message me. Thanks rhino21

Yeah but do they have turkey rights? It’s worse. They don’t have turkeys. I mean barely a few around the lodge. Definitely not a huntable population. Everything floods so easily. They are working on some habitat stuff in some areas and are going to make an effort to introduce them.

I’m not 100% sure but I think he has a membership there. If you have a membership you have a separate personal cabin a little away from the main lodge. And the cabins surround a huge “common area” lodge that is for members only. All that is under construction now but almost complete. It’s impressive.
