The app on my phone says this is cogongrass and it sure looks like it to me. I had a small patch that got started when loggers swept out the back of their truck and I enrolled in a state program to eradicate it. I had a couple of other patches that I thought were cogongrass too, but they said that it wasn't. What do you guys think? Yep. We are constantly finding and spraying small patches on our place in Monroe co. I have to keep a watch on my place too. It’s not hard to kill, but no idea how it just appears in places.

Thanks for all the replies. I don't understand how the state guys that sprayed it every day got it wrong. Looks like I have a lot of spraying to do. How hot do y'all mix the gly when spraying this stuff? I'll be using a 25 gallon ATV sprayer for most of it. Is 3 quarts per tank enough?

Just found the third patch on my place last weekend. All were brought in by loggers about four years ago. My biggest fear is that it spreads and gets out of control. Planning a nuclear level application of some herbicide cocktail in the next few weeks.

If you have hardwoods that you want to keep alive and have Cogon grass, buy some Alligare SFM75 from Amazon. It’s a generic for Oust. MSU extension had a post stating apply at 4 oz/acre. I reached out to them and was told to use .1 oz per gallon. I’ve been using it this year and so far it’s doing well. Has a pretty good residual too.
It’s a dispersable granule and I pre/mix in a bucket of water then add to tank. Then add Glyphosate and any adjuvants. I can make 480 gallons of mix for less than $150 not counting the Gly or other tank mix partners. Much cheaper than Polaris (Imazapyr) which was almost $400 for 2.5 gallons the last time I purchased some.
If it doesn’t come with the measuring cup call Alligare and they will send you one.
