1400 acres of some of the best deer and turkey hunting in Alabama gone for a solar farm. Macon/Bullock County. From what I can gather it’s some of the old Sedgefield Plantation

Yup. They wont use all 1,400 acres. It may get whittled down to about 300 acres of actual panels. Still that chunk of land will effectively be lost. When somebody at the Federal level eventually gets paid enough, you can expect Tuskegee NF to go up for sale.

The I-85 corridor from the Gump to Auburn is going the same direction as I-20 for B-Ham to T-town.

Reckon what 300 acres worth of panels would pay out per year? Seems like they could have kept land in tack and made it roll some cash some other way. Guess not though

That big solar farm on the north side of Hwy 20 in the Courtland/Hillsboro area near the defunct Champion Paper Mill sure is a disappointment. Those big fields have been in row crops for decades.

I’m getting closer to making my final move. Niobrara County Wyoming.
The least populated county in the least populated state in America.

I hate making a good first impression. There’s no way I can keep that shit up.

Clearview Ranch property. Joins Sedgefield Plantation. About two miles North West of Union Springs. And yes, some of the best deer and turkey hunting in Alabama.

Looking to incorporate solar in our upcoming project. It will be on the rooftops so no acreage lost. I don’t understand why more people do not install on their home as long as it’s not overly visible.

I wish I owned the property next to it. When they start all the construction or destruction, all those deer and turkey will go somewhere. I’d like to be next door welcoming them onto my property.

Weight and weather issues. Rooftop panels can cause all kinds of unexpected problems like leaks that are difficult to repair or the added weight can cause joist problems.

I don’t understand why they don’t do like other countries do like Japan and put the panels in the medium along the highways. They also put them on top of parking garages.

There is NO reason that those areas can't still be used for hunting.

I've been saying that for decades now. Just the I-10 median across Texas would be 10x more than all of the solar panels on solar farms across this country.
Every state has enough highway median of otherwise useless land that could be used for panels that would supply most of the electric needs for the state.

Have you guys not seen the median guard rails and cables on I-65?? There ain’t a 5-mile stretch that’s hasn’t been ran over. Really hard to keep the juice following with cars continuously wrecking the panels.

Speaking of those cables. Why do they put the to one side of the road and not in middle??? I am sure there is some reason

Yep. I really don’t blame the sellers, I just hate to see it. Lots of good memories on County Rd 23

It would be no different than when a car hits a power pole on any random road anywhere. Repair crews come out, fix it, rinse repeat.
