Anyone thinking of buying one?

Has anyone seen the pricing?

I was on our battalion shooting team briefly in the early 80's. We shot match grade M-14's. That has been the only time before or since I ever shot one. I wouldn't mind having one for nostalgic reasons. It was a shame that such a good battle rifle had such a short lifespan in the military. I understand the logistical reasons, but it's still a shame.

I was looking yesterday but didn’t see anything about prices yet. Just out of curiosity. One article said now is time to join CMP organization to be ready when opportunity comes up to buy.

They are fine weapons. Even if they weigh 11 pounds loaded

I was wondering about that. You can get a brand new Springfield M1A from Palmetto for $1570.00 and for $1729.00 you can get the natonal match.
I've always wanted a SOCOM or Tanker but have never bought one.

If I was going to spend money on a "vintage" military rifle, it'd be an M1, hands down. The M14's are cool, but I don't have the budget or the safe room for a bunch of them, and I'd rather have the M1 than the M14

I don’t want either one, they both heavy as a sack of horse feed. There’s far better options out there for the 308 and 30-06.

I had the M1A Tanker. Nice rifle, but I ended up selling it to Roadkill, because I actually liked my Ruger Mini-30 better.

If that’s the case I’d rather get a new one from PSA but I don’t really want one. I wouldn’t mind owning a piece of history but only if price is reasonable. We’re talking about used firearms from the 50s and 60s. I’ll see what the price is when they come out.

I have a nice CMP M1 Garand. New stock but otherwise very nice war time Winchester receiver and matching barrel, and correct sight bar. It’s a nice rifle.

I’d love to have an M1A to go next to it. But 1.) I suspect they’ll be higher, $1500+. 2.) bad economic timing for me. I could swing it but I have other things that need to take priority.

My dad use to have a. 30 caliber carbine that shot really fast when you pulled the trigger for some reason.😁 he was suspicious of it and got rid of it for some reason...lmao

I’d love to have one just because my dad had one in his hands when he jumped off the helicopter in the Ia Drang Valley in 1965. He was the company sniper and had an M14. Everyone else had an M16. He shot all 240 rounds he had for the M14. His squad leader had been killed right beside him and he picked up his M16 and kept up the fight.

Great rifle, wrong war for it.

My dad always said his DI at Parris Island, in 1969, called it 11lbs of motherf*cker. I came to appreciate that humping around an M240D later in life.

We'll see what the cost is. I'm sure it will be more than a Garand due to machining costs.

Can you should modern, off-the-shelf ammo through the CMP M1’s and M14’s or only surplus or handloads? I’ve heard some debate about it with some saying modern ammo is too high pressure and others say it’s fine.

Does CMP have an official stance?

I have a Garand I shoot the sealed cans with 240 rds of Greek ammo made just for the Garand. The new ammo made for the Garands is said to work fine never shot any in mine only the Greek ammo.

Always heard to use medium speed burn rate in the m14s and Garands. Italy Greece Scotland all received Lake City components after the Suez canal incident. Why did we send components instead of loaded ammo? Probably some political reason that they were "educational materials" instead of ammo makings maybe you old people know.
