My wife has that same condition; it was diagnosed about 5 years ago. They monitor it with an annual electrocardiogram and CT scan.
The number to determine possible intervention can vary depending on your physical size; my wife is petite so hers would be different from yours. She is doing well, so far; but her BP has to be managed a lot. Her Dr. wanted to keep it under 130/80 because high BP puts cumulative stress on the aneurism over time. She is vary active and works out 2-3 times a week. Though he did not want her to lift to heavy. She is 75.
We both use UAB; they are excellent. I would HIGHLY recommend their cardio practice. Don't know much about Simon Williamson; I assume they use Princeton?? Thank you for that info. They are at Princeton. I've been using Dr. Kirby for years, as he is a close friend. He is there too. He said no restrictions other than I can't lift anything over 100lbs. I guess I will have to get help dragging deer out of the woods from now on.  Princeton is part of the group including Brookwood and Shelby that was sold to Orlando Health 2 years ago. Hope the sale helped them; because while caring for my Mom in her last years I about lost it on a Dr. at Brookwood and Shelby. They were awful and incompetent. Never went anywhere but UAB after that; and we were there a lot, unfortunately. No experience with Princeton. If it's my heart or my wife's; we are going to UAB. Best of Luck! I’m anti statins but also wouldn’t recommend immediately going against your doctor’s orders. Get fanatical with diet and exercise to start chipping away at those medications. 55 is too young to spend a lifetime on statins.
It takes real hard work to reverse all the damage we do to ourselves in the first half century. I understand. I have never worried about salt, or processed foods or anything and never had a weight problem. Now I'm eating whole wheat everything (not too bad), no cheese, very little salt or butter, no processed foods, sweet tea :(, cut way back on beef. I'm eating a lot more fiber, fruits and vegetables.

Nothing over there has been an issue for me, at all. Everyone that I’ve dealt at Princeton has been great but I haven’t been admitted there before and I don’t know many that have. Never had a reason to think about it before.

You need to see Dr. Davies at UAB, he is the best in the business when dealing with aneurysm

I was diagnosed 3 years ago with thoracic aortic aneurysm that measured 4.4 cm. Fortunately it hasn’t grown in 3 years

I asked when I might need surgery - 2 years? 2 months? My cardiologist replied To-morrow?? Got my attention.
I understand the objections to statins, but since my stroke cause by my second open heart surgery, I'm literally taking medicines to offset the side effects to other medicines.
Don't get serious health advice on a hunting forum.

I should clarify that I believe statins are widely over prescribed simply for high cholesterol individuals without other significant risks of heart disease. Without significant and proven statiscal advantage, your body and brain is healthier without statin drugs than with.

I do not believe in taking a statin. Cholesterol is a required compound in the body. This!!!! Yes!!!! I will not ever take a statin. I blindly followed my Dr's advice and took them in the past. But I stopped and never looked back. No plans of ever taking them again

If you were against statins read up on nattokinase.
It is an enzyme from fermented soybean that has excellent cardiovascular benefits and is said to help with plaques
Well, the way I see it is there's just too many assholes

One stent and double bypass here
Statins were a No-Go for me
Had some serious side effects from them
I do take a shot once a month called Repatha with no side effects and it keeps my bad cholesterol down in the 40’s
High blood calcium can be remedied with vitamin K2Mk7
This vitamin will place calcium where it is supposed to be and will remove what’s not needed through your bowels and urine
When I need expert advice I tend to talk to myself

Came here to commend you on quitting smoking! That will prolong your healthy life, for sure! Avoiding those dang statins will be a plus. Unless you have some genetic cholesterol issue, you will be able to get that ldl down with good diet and a steady cardio program. Keep working it!

A lot of training Dr's get is funded by Big Pharma. They teach Dr's to push pills because it makes them money. Dr's are just doing what they have been taught.
