This is, I guess, a fairly rare single cab F-150 4x4. It's a very basic XL package and the idiot salesman doesn't even mention the engine. I'm assuming it's the base engine wich now I believe is the 2.7 twin turbo motor.

The price is over $50k. I guess I'm kind of in a state of shock, because I haven't looked at new trucks in a while. Is that normal?

Sadly, yes. Prices are why I went with the mid size Colorado. And I love it BTW.

Because a single cab work truck is $50,000 and a decent(notice how I didn’t say extravagant) house not in BFE is $300,000-400,000

There a couple of guys at the gym that drive the GMC version of that truck and the 4x4 versions look bad ass. Great looking truck. I was hoping they had a naturally aspirated V6, but I think they are only available in the turbo 4 banger. I think the Nissan Frontier is the only mid-sized truck available with an NA V6 in it.

If I was to get a F-150 it would have to have the 5.0. Read to many problems out of the 6’s.

I bought my first house in Leeds, Alabama in a nice little neighborhood called Bridle Trace. I bought it for $34k. 3 bedroom 2 bath. That was in the late 80's.

That house was probably 1.5-2X’ish your annual income?
Which today for most is a complete pipedream.

I don't know how we get to the fixing it part or what that looks like but it needs to start happening before desperation and hurt get much bigger in our country cause when those overwhelm people they tend to take that hurt and anger out publicly. I think the Nissan versa is the cheapest car in America around $18K and why no one makes something at $15K that's driveable and attainable I don't know why. Least I got popcorn and some Allman Brothers.

Nissan Versa is/has been discontinued in the US.

My trucks are 18 years old, 19 years old, 29 years old and 32 years old. All big V8s and I can work on any of them. I could buy $50k or $60k trucks but they do not make one today that want. Nobody makes one I want. A turbocharged Barbie car is still a Barbie car. There is no replacement for displacement.

When adjusted for inflation, average annual income is only 12% higher than it was in 1990, but vehicles cost 34% more than they did in 1990, houses cost 80% more than they did in 1990 and a college education costs 3x what it did in 1990.

I always laugh when someone blames "young folks" financial hardship on "buying Starbucks every day" (I'm not sure why Starbucks gets singled out so often in this discussion, but it does).

Lets assume they buy one EVERY DAY on the way to work and let's say, conservatively, that they take 2 weeks vacation each year. Worst case scenario, they're buying 250 starbucks drinks/year (50 weeks x 5/week). At $6 ea, that's $1500 per year. Starbucks ain't the reason folks can't buy a house or car.

We bought our first new house in Trussvlle, Grayson Valley in 1978 for $34.5 3 bed 2 bath, full basement. Have moved 5 times since then, each time the home price doubled. BUT we did upgrade a few times.

$50K starting salary less $8K for taxes, less $3K for health insurance if your company covers a large portion of the premiums, figure $18,600 for 12mths rent and utilities. That leaves them with disposable income of around $20K. That same person spending $1500/yr on starbucks (7.5% of their total disposable income) probably eats out a couple or 3 times a week between lunch and dinners for another $3-$4k/yr, and all of a sudden, that disposable income has been reduced by 22-27%. Adds up quick. Most kids starting out today, woefully lack the ability curb their lifestyle back from when they were living with mom an dad or to build a budget and stick to it.

That’s only $299/month if you finance it for 30 years.

Here’s some more recent home price inflation data.
In October 2009, my wife and I bought a brand new 3 bedroom/2 bath single wide Mobile home.
It had vinyl siding and a shingle roof (Because we are fancy).
We paid $29K and financed it for 10 years at 9% interest.
That same model today is over $90K and they will finance it for up to 30 years.
