Guys, I haven't been on here much of late. Been busy. I do come back with a question. For as long as I have been aware, teachers have had to buy at least part of their classroom supplies out-of-pocket. I have several friends that are teachers at a local elementary school and my wife and I would like to help with this. I know many of you are teachers, or have spouses that teach. What is the best way to help with this? The only solution I have is gift cards. If so, how much per class? I don't know if anything will come of this, but would like to help them if there is a good way to do so.

That is a noble ideal. One of my daughters is a teacher. The ladies at church knew a lot of teachers. They fixed several gift boxes of things they needed

I spent 30 years teaching elementary school. It gets old of hearing parents cant afford the stuff but they have the new I Phone a polar pop and vape like a chimney. Couple thoughts
Buy like 10 backpacks put in glue stick, 24 ct crayons and some pencils(Ticonderoga) are the best the cheap on wont sharpen, school box
another thought buy
30 boxes of crayons
App. 60 pencils
pile of glue sticks
Yet another
Gift card to Wal Mart to get the stuff and brand they want.

My wife is an elementary school teacher. The Amazon deliveries for school started showing up bout 2 weeks ago like every other year. It pisses me off but not at her. I’m very familiar with wasted money in public school systems so when I see what we have to spend on supplies just so she can keep her low paying unappreciated job, it gets under my skin. Personally the money isn’t an issue for us but for many teachers it is. A $25 or $50 gift card to those teachers means more than you know. Some parents are really generous and it really puts a smile on those teachers faces. Last school year the a/c kept going out in the floor my wife teaches on. County wouldn’t get them fans so my wife texted asking me to bring her one for her kids in her class room just to get air moving. I bought fans for the whole floor and guess what, damn janitors started stealing them at night. Thats a whole nother story. Donate what you can when you can because it’s certainly appreciated!

my wife’s a teacher, 19 years of back to school fun for me
wine, xanax, muscle relaxers, cbd gummies would all be appreciated
a list of things that would help the teachers is always gift cards. $20-25, small bottles of water, and snacks. speaking of only what i’ve seen at my wife’s school, crayons, markers, notebooks and folders are stacked up like firewood in every classroom in the cabinets

The public school education system should be disbanded. A few years ago folks got on the facebooks begging because they didn't have enough chairs in the classroom. I told them that instead of begging us that already pay taxes to fund the school they needed to be questioning the Superintendent who was making $200k on why he wasn't doing his job. They've got administrators with staff for everything from Accounting to Zip Ties. The bloat in education is from the Administration side while the Teachers and Students are an afterthought.

As the husband of an elementary school teacher I can echo what the others have already said.
If you want to help them out, just send an Amazon gift card. Amazon has everything they need and it can be obtained with the least amount of hassle.
It’s insane what teachers spend out of pocket and I try not to get pissed about it any more. I honestly don’t think my wife does much better than breaking even when the dust settles, but she enjoys it and truly feels like teaching is her calling.
We typically end up buying Christmas presents for a few of the less fortunate kids too.

As a further example of how screwed up the system is.
Teachers get state funding for the upcoming school year in OCTOBER. Make it make sense. The Montgomery morons can’t align a fiscal year with a school year or figure out a way to get the funds to the teachers PRIOR to school starting.
A first year teacher has to come out of pocket a lot of money upfront for a job that pays peanuts.
I honestly don’t know how there’s enough teachers to fill the classrooms. The pay is laughable for a 4-yr degree, retirement rules have changed in a detrimental way and kid’s behaviors (b/c of parents) continue to erode.

A first year teacher has to come out of pocket a lot of money upfront for a job that pays peanuts. For the sake of discussion, what happens if that "first year teacher" doesn't buy a lot of stuff out-of-pocket? Let's say he/she just says "that's not my responsibility".....then what? I get that many teachers (the ones that feel "called" to it) don't want the kids to suffer so that's why they do it, but eventually they're gonna have to force the schools' hands by just refusing to spend their own money and say "not my problem".

I just hope the local school board hires another assistant chief to help manage the indians. Then the teachers will get what they need.

She would have liked to teach a few more years but the entitled kids/parents made it not worth the effort. So that being said, don’t be afraid to whip the kids ass when needed and back the teachers up.

The whole “summers off” is a myth. Yes they do have June and July off. But when you add in continuing ed classes it eats a lot of that time. Then there’s the getting their room ready and all of the associated bulletin boards in the halls etc they work on. Those materials are usually out of pocket too.

A guy in Selma named Mark Woodson owns the KFC, and even though it doesn't do any business being in Selma, he started out several years ago buying gift cards and having people give the name of a teacher in Dallas County that could use it for classroom supplies. Initially, he bought all the cards, then it took off and people and businesses contribute. If I remember right, last year he gave out over 50, $100 cards. Any teacher is eligible as long as they teach in Dallas County.
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.
