OK I haven't bought a pair of sunglasses in about 12 years. My old Costas have started to delaminate around the lenses. I don't want to fool with the warranty deal and all that. Just gonna buy a new pair. I've heard the "newer" Costas have gone down in quality. D9es anyone wear Maui Jim or Ray Ban.

Yes I know there will be folks that are gonna say just get some from Walmart. I'm a believer in good sunglasses. Driving a lot for work they are worth the cost if they are good. Also have thought about the fuse lense replacements but kinda leary of those.

I used to wear whatever the company gave me for free. Some type of tinted cheap safety glasses. I didn’t realize the true benefit of quality sunglasses until I needed prescription eyewear. Now I have progressive transitions that cost me a few hundred dollars after insurance. But it’s well worth the cost. My point being, before you invest in expensive sunglasses you might want to get a fresh eye exam and see if any kind of prescription could benefit you more than just shaded lenses.

Get your eyes checked before you invest in sunglasses that actually could worsen an existing vision problem.

Maui Jim's are the best. I have three pairs. I mainly wear a pair of aviators. They are 6 years old and was just a good as new until this summer. I had some chemical spray back and mess up the lens. I sent them in and got a new pair. (Had to pay $90, but again, six years old). The lenses hold up so much better than others. The aviator are plastic lenses, my other pairs are glass. I tried Shady Ray's last year and went through two pairs in a month. Both pairs ruined to the point of not being usable. The only other glasses I would try are Bajio. They are built by the original Costa people, in Daytona.

I have a pari of prescription Maui Jim. However, I can't see my live scope screen very good because of the polarization and darkness. They are awesome other than that issue.

Like Out back said, get a check up before you make a decision. I too wear progressives; I have the Transition Extra Active Polarized. They darken when you go outside and also polarize when they darken. Works good for fishing and viewing Live Scope but not as dark as I would like them to be for everything else. Still stuck with two pair of glasses.

Maui Jim’s is my recommendation. I have owned the Maui Jim’s for at least 10 years now. I sent my pair in about 6 months ago and had them replace the lenses and they sent them back looking like a new pair for $90 fee. The Maui Jim lenses are the best sunshade lenses You can get IMO.

BAJIO is all i wear now. Majority of them folks there are from the old Costa Company (and Oakley)

Skeleton Optics. Veteran owned, hunter and has Zeiss glass. I ordered the wrong pair two years ago and contacted the company. The owner called me and took care of the issue which was my fault. About to order a new pair from them.

Fuse lenses are really good. I have them in a pair of Oakley Crosshair 2.0 frames and they are better than the originals. These glasses are old as dirt and still look great.

Mauis, Costa, and Oakley are all owned by the same foreign company now out of Italy and quality has plummeted and warranties are non existent pretty much so they don't stand by them anymore. I'm still using my old pairs but a lot of friends are buying Shady Rays for much less and are pleased with the quality and warranty.

Maui Jim isn't owned by the same company as Costa and Oakley.

Double check that. The big company out of Italy owns pretty much all the high end sunglasses now. They may be using another name, but that is what I've been told by an Optometrist.

Maui Jim is owned by Kering based out of Paris, France. Oakley and Costa Del Mar are owned by another company in Europe.

Been wearing Smith's for 35 years; great selection in styles and lenses, Great customer service.

I spend about 25$ on them because I break them and booger them up

Calcutta polarized have worked well for and hold up great for the price

I used to wear Costa, Smith, and Maui Jim. The polarized Crossfire mirrored safety glasses I buy for $33 a pair on Amazon do exactly the same.

I still have a pair of Costa and a pair of Maui Jim, and I can't remember the last time I wore either one.

You're right. I searched "Sunglasses Brands Not Owned by Luxottica or EssilorLuxottica" and Mauis came up so you are correct. Unfortunately, they are too pricey for me without my insurance paying 80% like they do the others since my optometrist quit selling them. I liked them better than any other pair I've ever had.

I've got 2 pair of Maui Jim. I bought mine from some Euro Eyewear site and only paid $180 a pair. No issues either time.
