Yup Claude Strother if I remember correctly was the last private landowner and he sold it to APCO around 2008 - 2010ish or so. I could be a few years off on those dates.
Its incredible property, dang lot of sites all over it. Whatever APCO ends up doing with it those sites will have to be mitigated or worked around. Claude died just recently. Yes….BUT they are intermittent resources. When they are producing electricity, they are cheaper on per MW basis. Solar doesn’t do well on cloudy days or at night and the wind doesn’t always blow.

My college roommate is married to Claude’s daughter. He probably wasn’t liked by some, but from my experience, he was a kind and generous man. And a great storyteller. I hadn’t seen him in years when he passed, but have some good memories of hanging around him some back in the day with Darren.

I am sure a man of his stature, had some enemies but that comes with the territory. He came across on that podcast exactly as you described him, humble and kind.

Deanne worked at the PD when she was in High School as a Summer job when I was there. Anyone that didn't like Mr. Claude was just jealous of what he had. A lot of fine property and a nice house in Old Town Selma. He was always nice to me and his son too. John's daughter and mine graduated together.

Bellefonte is set to become the poster child for TVAs diversified power program. They’ll have a little bit of it all and will beat their drum to anyone that can hear it. SMRs, solar, wind, hydro, etc

What about the powerline that runs out of Hollywood up crow mountain? it doesn't have power on it. How far away from the lines will the trees be cut back? It runs up my property line for about 300 yards. Back in the early 80's it was one of the best hunting spots around. Like hunting a clearcut.

That’s a leg off the Madison-Widows Creek 500kv line that goes into the 500 yard at Bellefonte. I’ll see someone who probably knows later this afternoon, but I’d guess that ROW is around 200 feet wide.

Obviously, any trees that can fall within touching distance of the conductor are certainly within the ROW. That might give you a round about ideal how far back (plus a little more) it could be cleared.
