i have had 2.One about 10 yrs ago and one last November .First one didnt work as well as the second one but still have problems.
I wore a heart monitor for 4 days as a follow up.They said i was in afib 36% of the time and want to do another one.
I am on hold right now because the spells arent too bad.

FIL had one a few months ago. Pretty much fixed his problem.

The Watchman does not fix AFIB; but it allows you to get off blood thinners. Correct... my father had two ablations due to AFIB. The first was a couple of years ago... it improved the severity, but didn't cure it. The second was at the same time he had a Watchman implanted. Between both of those things he doesn't suffer from AFIB like he used to and he's not on blood thinners or nasty heart meds like he was.

My story, My cardiologist referred me to a heart specialist last visit... saw this specialist to discuss what can be done about my AFIB... after discussing things he feels I've been in afib too long (years without treatment other than meds) for an ablation or a shock treatment to have success. Felt just keeping me treated with meds would be better for me. Since I never really know when I'm in afib which it's said every time they put the wires on me they see I'm in afib I tend to agree just stay on the meds becasue I don't feel a thing.
My next visit to my cardiologist after the specialist , My Doc says he doesn't feel not doing anything but meds is the answer and I should at least do the shock treatment and see if they can get my heart back into rhythm. Said a another heart attack or a first stroke is gambling with my life. I tend to agree. Cardio Doc said come back in three months ..So in like a couple of months I'm going to line up a shock treatment , the Doc said takes a bout three minutes and I'm done.

My mom, 81, years old is in constant afib but according to her cardiologist, most older folks are. They have shocked her heart a total of 5 times to try and get it back in rhythm. Worked for a while then went right back into afib. They told her she isn’t a candidate for the ablation or the watchman. Something to do with the way the “electrical firing” of her heart is. The bad thing though is the meds she has to be on because this will eventually destroy her kidneys.

Mike. It’s called a cardioversion and I hope it goes well for you. Guys, don’t take afib lightly. Also, we are in exciting times in the electrophysiology era. Technology in ablation therapy has evolved greatly with Boston Scientifc bringing farapulse to the market. Other companies like Abbott and Biosynse Webster have come out with other technologies. Good time to get fixed!

Are you doing external shock with pads or thru vessel (femoral vein typically)? Cardioversion is done with adhesive pads on the chest. Ablation is done via the blood vessel. Hope it goes well!

Are you doing external shock with pads or thru vessel (femoral vein typically)? They went through the arteries on both sides of my groin. I had the cardioversion but it only lasted about four days. So far I am out of Afib. Hopefully it stays out. I don't want to have to do it again. I don't do well under general anesthesia.

I hate that going thru the groin deal even though that's how they placed a stent in the blocked artery some 11 years ago after my heart attack. Praying you stay out of AFIB.. My Cardiologist and I discussed shocking my heart, so In my case I'm thinking they're going to do the cardio version procedure .

They will usually try that a time or two to see if it works and you can stay in rhythm. At least that was the plan with my Mom at UAB. Their electrophysiolgy practice is top notch.

Cardioversion twice and then ablation didn't help my Afib. Then sleep study / apnea and then Cpap machine for the last 4 months with no change. It doesn't stop me from doing what i want to do! Heart attack 10 years ago with one stint. I don't qualify for the watchmen according to my electrophysiologist. Good luck,
