I Love America

I was just a boy when I stood along the streets during America’s Bicentennial. The bands marched. The flags danced in the summer breeze. Veterans tipped their caps. Children waved tiny stars and stripes with all the strength their little arms could summon. Somewhere between the drumbeats and the fireworks, something settled deep inside my heart.

Pride.

Not the loud kind that needs to shout. The quiet kind that takes root. Nearly fifty years have passed, and that feeling has never left me.

I still get emotional when I see our flag catch the wind. I still pause when I hear the National Anthem. I still believe that there is something extraordinary about this improbable experiment called the United States of America.

An experiment built on the audacious belief that ordinary people could govern themselves. An experiment forever unfinished, forever reaching, forever asking each generation to leave it stronger than they found it.

That is what I love.

I don’t love America because we have always been perfect. I love America because we have never stopped trying to become better. I love the dream that every child, no matter where they begin, can write a different ending. I love the idea that freedom belongs to everyone. I love that our story is written in thousands of accents, countless traditions, every faith and every background imaginable. I love the rancher and the factory worker. The nurse and the teacher. The immigrant who arrives carrying hope in one hand and a suitcase in the other. The soldier standing watch while the rest of us sleep.

The police officer, the firefighter, the farmer, the scientist, the artist, the truck driver, the small business owner, the volunteer who quietly serves without applause.

I love every American.

Not because we always agree.

Not because we all look alike.

Not because we vote the same.

I love us because we are one people, woven from a thousand different threads that somehow become one remarkable tapestry.

Our diversity is not a flaw in the American story. It is the American story.

We argue.

We stumble.

We disagree loudly.

Sometimes we forget to listen.

Beneath all of it beats the same enduring hope that tomorrow can be better than today. That hope is as American as any monument.

This nation has given generations permission to dream impossible dreams, to rebuild after failure, to begin again, to believe that where you come from does not have to determine where you are going.

That miracle deserves gratitude. So yes, I still get emotional. Because I remember that little boy standing beneath red, white, and blue streamers in 1976, believing he lived in the greatest country on Earth.

And after all these years… I still do.

God bless the United States of America. God bless every single American who calls her home.

Happy Birthday!

yep, I posted about people hating the government and what it really means. It’s not people there’s good people everywhere, there’s good land everywhere, but it’s our government that allows us freedoms and choices. Latetly all you hear is i hate the government, you never here I love the govenment, but you will hear I love America. I still believe America is the greatest country on Earth with more choices than any other country and if you don’t like it you likely have the choice to go to any other country. It’s all about choices, there should be no complaining only disagrements.

I turned 11 in 1976. My dad bought me Ruger 10-22 for my birthday. Has stamped on the barrel "Made in the 200th year of American Liberty".
