The older I get, the more I hate the government. I’m a rule follower but the more I realize the government is a complete overreach. Two examples….seat belts and helmets with motorcycles. Both are good ideas but at no point is it the governments business if I wear a seat belt. If I die or become seriously injured because I don’t have my seat belt on….thats my problem.

That’s all. Just an observation

I'm not saying I disagree with you....but the argument is that considering how much our healthcare is government-subsidized, someone dying or becoming seriously injured becomes everyone's problem in terms of healthcare costs.

Agreed. And there should be no subsidy for healthcare. The government has no business in people’s healthcare either. The reason why it costs so much isn’t because of dummies. It’s FRAUD. But that’s an entirely different conversation

Bad habits (alcohol, drugs, sweets and tobacco) cause more of a strain on healthcare cost than anything other than fraud and having to provide for the illegals.

And btw, I think most helmets are rated for something like a 15 mph. Of zero utility at typical motorcycle speeds. Could be wrong.

I just paid a crap ton of money in vehicle tag renewals so I am not very happy with the gubberment right now.

I'm the same on this is, "You can be as dumb as you want, but we can't have your stupidity affecting others."

It is always interesting to me riding around the country and going from states that require helmets to states that don't. What I have observed first hand, is that if you give most "Bikers" the option to not wear a helmet they absolutely will not. There are others like this, mainly holligan type sport bike riders, you know the one's I'm talking about.

On the other hand almost 100% of the ADV riders and 100% of the serious Sport riders will always wear: Boots, armor pants, armor jacket & helmet. Regardless of which state they are in.

Point being, people are going to do what they want whether it's good for them or not.

Just one junker and it aint on blocks, it just needs a lot of damn work.

ALL government is way to intrusive and I only want the bare minimum from them.......honest food inspection, schools that actually TEACH the kids, decent roads, clean water at the faucet and electricity. Real estate taxes really piss me off. We never own our real estate we rent it from the government. And there's a segment of our population that probably agrees with my opening line who pay a bonus to have their lives controlled. Why the Hell anybody would pay an HOA to tell them when to mow their yard, who can mow said yard and what color their mailbox has to be, is beyond human logic. An HOA is GOVERNMENT. Period. They're like small scale Nazi organizations with multiple Karens just seething with authority over their 'community'.

A lot of the 20-35y/o guys here figured out they stopped pulling over expired plates here during covid and are still riding around with plates expired 1 -5yrs and not getting pulled over.

Well for seatbelts, the fine isn’t very high. But not wearing a seatbelt doesn’t actually only affect you. Firstly, kids. Kids deserve agency for safety, and the fine might be the only thing that makes a shitty parent buckle their kids up. Secondly, without a seatbelt you can become a missile. One of those kids behind you might shoot up into the back of you, severely hurting you both, or you might shoot out of the windshield of your car and become an obstacle for someone else.

It shouldn’t be required by law for people to actually use life saving safety equipment but so many people are ignorant or lazy and they pass that ignorance and lazy (or its effects) on to their kids. When I was younger I used to smoke but never smoked with my daughter in the car, I always waited until I got where I was going, had her wait in her car seat with the AC, and I’d smoke then get her out. Her mother used to fuss at me for smoking. Well surprise after the divorce I’ve quit smoking and her mother started and she’d drive around in the winter with the window cracked a damn centimeter and the heat on, filling the car with smoke with my daughter in it. So I’m glad places have started passing laws saying you can’t smoke with kids in the car.

So many people have a car/truck wreck. They lose control and run off the road and the vehicle overturns and they are thrown out and rolled on. DOA. I see it often on the news. They maybe would/could survive if buckled in.

You’re right. But I don’t need a fine or the government to tell me to buckle up. That’s over reach. If I die then it’s on me. My decision didn’t affect anyone else.
