Was doing some legal research on an easement issue. Claude Pro gave me an Alabama case cite right on point. Seemed too good to be true. Well it wasn’t true. This is what is going to run society?

People not thinking for themselves will be a major problem inside of 5 years and AI will be the leading cause
The technology of the day has already started this problem and AI will accelerate it

If you’re going to use AI for professional use, you need to be a subject matter expert and check every word, vet every phrase

Ant67 what prompt did you give it that made it give you a fake case? Can you post the prompt and Claude’s response?

I was asking whether an easement for ingress and egress gives you the right to install utilities

Interesting, I just gave a 20' wide easement by about 200yds. There was already a waterline there and powerline extension off of mine along a different route. I don't know if it would ever affect me but I'd still be interested in the answer to that question.

That would be a lot. But there is the part that included the fake case

I have a friend who is a subject matter expert in the world of 401k’s and IRS/DOL compliance. He says AI is wrong all the time and not to trust it. This doesn’t surprise me.

People NOT thinking for themselves has been a problem since, well the Garden of Eden.

But AI fabrication of a legal citation is much more than being incorrect...it's purposefully manipulation of information.
Tools are needed for research and Claude Pro doing that is a problem!

That’s correct, assuming you are referencing an APC distribution line.

Not AI, but with some additional legal research I think you'll find that while an ingress/egress easement gives rights to access it does not give subsurface rights for utilities.

The push by to incorporate the AI garbage into daily work activities is becoming a real problem for people working with data and processes dependent upon 100% factual information. If I have to check over 100% of the data AI produces within my own processes, what is the point of incorporating an additional variable that is known to not be 100% accurate ? The worst part is the inaccuracies aren’t even consistently inaccurate in a predictable manner. We are being used to build out the data AI requires to expand its models geared toward replacing us. Malicious compliance is the best wrench in the tool box these days.
