I DO NOT use the setting tool to actuate the trap jaws back and forth to clear the path for the jaws. I prep the hole by using a clam shovel to dig my hole since it's a good width compared to the trap and clear loose dirt like they do, often with my had (wearing gloves). Since my knees don't like a lot of kneeling, after the hole is prepped I simply take the trap and press into the dirt and basically move the trap back and forth to make the path for the jaws to travel. It's simple, requires no kneeling and catches moles. Both ways accomplish the same thing for the jaws path. It is important to get the end of the trigger pan touching the bottom of the tunnel and loosely fill dirt to the spring to keep air from flowing into the tunnel. The airflow will make them try to seal the hole. 14 tonight in 4 small fields
I own two and won't buy more at $32 a pop. The hard clay here is a bich to try and make the hole with the tool they provide. A garden auger helps a lot. If I weren't mainly using the Mole Reapers and Out 'o sight traps, I'd buy more of the traplines. The downside to them is ya need to stake them or tie them off AND dig them up to check. With that said, a lot of guys LOVE them but I'm not sure they knew how to use their previous traps. If ya have a lot of feeder tunnels popping up above ground these things actually kill a lot of moles. I grabbed two for $14 off a chick and have fun with them. They're just too bulky for me to have a few dozen. Link
