I get it. I've trained a few people who I call friend. I enjoyed working with them.
But I also like only having to deal with my son and I too. Less worries.
Character is not developed in moments of temptation and trial. That is when it is intended to be used.

My friends that own businesses have strained as much as they can. Technology is allowing for this. Some businesses may not be able. One friend relied on ChatGPT regularly for designs.

I have a crew that works for me. They have been with me for close to 30yrs. Very few issues. Then I do some work on the side by myself. I throughly enjoy it. My son started working with me this year and I enjoy spending the time with him but I still really like when I get a day by myself. My wife has a business with 30 employees. She is always dealing with some kind of crap. Doesn’t seem to bother her but that is definitely not for me.

"Work to build a life that you don't have to take a vacation from." Another way to say that is "have a life & career that you don't want to retire from." I haven't found that yet. I asked a few friends (who earn way more than me) recently if they'd quit work if investments paid them more than their annual earnings. Most of them said they'd keep working, which surprised me. I agree with you 100% CAL. People are the variable--never a constant in the equation. That variable has gotten worse since COVID, social media, and 24/7 blaring news cycles.

I thought about these variables yesterday when looking over several food plots of corn that had been under water to long. I aint talking huge money losses but enough to hurt a small time guy like me. But on another note the guy that gives one club a right of way stopped me and wanted to know if I would trap his land. Beavers are backing up water onto his hay fields.

Have a buddy who runs his own business with around 20 employees and he said without a doubt the hardest part is finding good employees who aren't lazy pos and won't steal. He said he is losing faith in humanity. And he said not many take pride in their work anymore and make lots of mistakes.

Just started my "legit" mole trapping business last night. Just me, a farm, and fresh air. Landed a dairy I'm familiar with, they know my success and we running an hourly rate deal and not per mole.
