Congrats Teach!! Congratulations.
I retired at 62 and I've been loving it.
I can't imagine going back to work though... A good friend of mine, and former boss, is 66 and still works, even though he has plenty of money/retirement. I asked him why hasn’t he retired yet and he told me there’s a certain satisfaction with knowing you can tell the company to kiss your ass anytime you want to and not suffer financially one single bit. At my retirement party, one of the Vice-Presidents was there and she knew me really well, we were friends, they were all going around the room telling funny stories about stuff I did at work and she laughs and says, "We'll see you in 9 months Mark!" I laughed even harder and said, "No you won't either." I’m only 53 (will be 54 Sept 2nd.) and one of my bosses is already asking about me staying on as an advisor to estimating and design, WHEN my time to retire comes. I don’t flat out say “no” because I’ll have to hear the offer when that time comes (and I’m a firm believer in not showing my cards) but inside, I’m saying to myself, “me and Mrs Ford are hitting the road the very next day after retirement and won’t look back”. We’ll see.

We’ll see. The literal first thing we did after I retired was take a 3 week transatlantic cruise to Europe. New York, Halifax, Dublin, Belfast, Amsterdam, Brussels, Le Harve, Rouen, London. It really helped me let go and get used to taking it easy.

Congratulations. I retired at 62 and its been almost fourteen years for me. I'll make a few suggestions. First of all none of the plans, dreams, want to dos - none of it has any possibility if you aren't healthy enough to do it. If you don't start moving and keep moving the view is always the same from your recliner in the den. Next is to try to avoid the inherent isolation. I used to interact with hundreds of people a day. Now its maybe five or six a week. That takes a little getting used to. Third is that people you have known for what seems your whole life will get old, become frail, get sick and then pass. Four of my contemporaries have died this month. Last is to stop accumulating stuff (guns excepted) and start clearing stuff out.
Anyway - I wish you the best. And that invite still stands for you to ride over my way and we'll take whatever you want to shoot out and make some noise. I agree 100% with Roadkill here. Stay active! Strength train, Cardio, Walking, Riding bikes, etc... Not only is it fun and you can meet people, but it will also allow you to enjoy all the other things you want to do in retirement.

Agree with a above to takes effort to keep in touch with ex coworkers/friends. I have a group of retired teachers who get together once a month for coffee/breakfast. Nice to set down and get caught up and BS

Nice to set down and get caught up and BS Agree 100% Since we've been back from the beach last Monday night, we have: Had dinner with friends, went to some other friend's house and had cocktails, hor dourves and cigars. and today we are having two other couples over for BBQ, cocktails and conversation. You need to keep a robust friend's group. We are social animals. We need the company of others It helps keep everything real.

As soon as I left my office for the last time, I drove straight home to help my son build a new stable for their horses. The 2 x 8’s seem a lot heavier than they used to! I have also accepted a job with another local school system to help their maintenance department with anything they need. I am looking forward to this new job as I have to be there at 5:00 am and get off at 11:00am. I can only work 30 hours a week so I will have plenty of time off to take care of the farms.

The left lane is for the the purpose of moving the flow of traffic forward regardless of the speed limit. If your impeding the flow of traffic get your ass in the right lane. It's really that simple...

I was retired about a month and went to work for a buddy of mine I just couldn’t sit still and am still fairly young so started another venture but knowing I can walk at anytime is good but still wouldn’t do that to my friend but yall know what I mean
