Since we didn't draw in Kansas we are looking into Oklahoma. Any one ever hunted out there? What are the need to knows, particularly the west side of the state.

Pricey but I would pay it to gun hunt. However from my research if you buy a gun tag the public land is either Bow only or much of it says shotgun. I think its limited public areas you could actually take a rifle on. Also A gun tag is only that. Another $501 for archery

The more I look at it -the luster is dimming. My headlights are now pointed towards Indiana.

I hunted 7 seasons in Oklahoma. All on public. I killed some nice bucks. Used to be 2 buck limit but one had to be bow or crossbow. That may have changed. They had a great rut where I was hunting. From about Nov 5th-15th it was on. Before rifle season too. Pressure on public THEN was practically non existent. It used to be a sleeper state but its been getting good attention for a few years now. I lived in Tulsa for 7 years and thats the ONLY thing I miss about it.

I’ll be hunting the bow opener there for a week or so down in Eldorado close to the Red River. Area has always produced some really good deer. If I’m lucky and time allows, I’ll hop across the river and hunt a buddy’s place in Texas for a few days too.
Have also hunted areas around the Canadian River too. If you can get into that area, you’ll be set for some good hunting as well.

Oklahoma is awesome! Total sleeper state for big bucks.
Hunting brings out the worst in people.
