Silly question I know, but I’ve never had to shop for a doctor before, while taking medication on a daily basis. I really like my primary care doctor but absolutely hate the group he is part of. Enough so that I’m seriously considering changing and finding a much smaller group. My concern is, I take about three medications on a daily basis and am curious how big of a hassle that will be to keep from having an interruption in prescription. Or, I don’t want a new doc to decide to change my meds when they are working great now. How’s this work?

Any refills left should be filled until there are no more, ask your Pharmacist. It would be between you and your new doctor to decide if meds change or stay the same.

Get the pharmacist to give you a list of all meds you have been on for the last 2-3 years. The new Dr may can use this on what to or not to do. Dr.s do like certain medications and may want to change

Good luck. My son was on some meds that helped him greatly. His primary doctor stopped taking his insurance. New doc switched him to what he liked to prescribe and its not working as well. I told my son to go back to old doc and cash pay.

Now if you are changing, go into the patient portal and download everything so you have a copy. Once you print it out, have you a copy and highlight things you see (medications tried and dates; surgeries and dates; any doctors notes you may have forgotten; etc). The old doc will forward all your charts to new one, you need a copy too.

Unfortunately, we have to be our own advocates now with doctors, our prescriptions, our care, etc. You need to use ChatGPT, put in some of this information and ask it questions, be proactive before seeing a new doctor. Then, be active with what the new doctor is saying.

Now let’s say you go to a new doctor, you tell him meds are working, but he wants to do something else A) he wants to add a new medication, ok try it; B) he wants to take you off one of your meds and gives you a very good reason why, ok; C) he wants to change everything, go find another doctor, this one clearly isn’t listening to you.

If the new Dr. does not value your opinion on what meds are working for you; he's not your guy. If a new Dr. wants you to try something that he thinks is more effective, less side effects , etc. ; may be worth a try. As long as he will listen to your feedback.

Give your medical records to your new Dr. Don't see why he would have any issue keeping your meds the same

I dont know your insurance but check and see if there is a Teledoc option with your plan. You may set on the phone a little while but a Tele Dr. can get your prescriptions sent in. I did this once while out of town and needed my meds sent in.
