Coleman killed his 3rd gobbler in 3 hunts this morning. He got bumped up to varsity baseball right after youth weekend, so he’s been on a field almost every day since.

Went to our first place at daylight and heard a bird way off. We got in the truck and went that way.

Made our way to the back of a food plot surrounded by big pines that burned this past September. Beautiful turkey woods BTW. These woods are wide open and we could see a LONG ways. Decided to give Coleman my 12 with the 3.5” Apex TSS.

Got 2 to answer us to our left. Then a single answered to our right. We set up on a ridge just off this plot between the 3. All 3 would answer me, but didn’t seem to want to budge. This went on for 20 minutes. We then had a train come through, which tends to shut them up for a while. 5 minutes after the train left the area, I checked them with a cut. The bird to the right had cut the distance in half. I went quiet and after about 2 minutes, he sounds off at about 90 yards just over the next ridge. I then started hearing him drum. Told Coleman to shoulder my gun and get ready. Not long after that, he tops the ridge and goes to gobbling. I ease up the rangefinder and he’s at 80. He stays at this spot gobbling and drumming for 5 minutes. He comes down the ridge a bit, stops, and gobbles. After about a minute of scanning the woods, I see him tuck those wings and turn to leave. I ranged him at 73 and told Coleman to put the sights on his eyeball and shoot. I hear the safety click off and BOOM!!! The Apex TSS rocked his world!!

In this pic, we were set up at the top of the hill in the background. He shot the bird on the ridge to the left of where we walked out.
