I’m gonna start this off with I’m not usually one of the “ive been hunting this bird for years” people. And there’s no way to know if this is the same bird over the last few years but it’s hard for me to think it’s not with how big he is

This is my third year in this hunting club. We have one big block of land that borders a small river(big enough to run a flat bottom with a motor in but nothing crazy, 40-60 feet wide) our side is big hills and hollers with big hardwoods on them, across the river is flat river bottom ag fields with just small pockets of woods here and there. Every year we’ve always heard a bird hanging in a pocket of woods 3-400 yards across the river but he never gobbled a ton and wouldn’t answer calling at all. I got to that block around 8 this morning and heard him gobbling more than I’ve ever heard. I had time to kill so I dropped into the bottom and got on the bench right up from the river. He would hit the call good and for about 30 minutes he would come all the way to the edge of the field then kinda drift off then come back. The last time he got close I decided to just give it all to him so I ran my mouth yelper and pot call for about 4 minutes straight and he was just eating it up. I put the call down and knew if he was going to come it was gonna be soon. I just got my gun propped on my knee when I look up and see him come out of the woods on the other bank and he landed on a little knoll 32 yards in front of me popped into a half strut then ran his head up and that was it. I was in shock that I was just able to call a bird across the river and was fully expecting a 2 year old bird. I went and picked him up and he had 1.5 inch spurs a 10 inch paint brush beard and another 8 3/4 inch beard. I will probably never be able to do that again and sure won’t be able to do it with a bird of this caliber. I had to sit down there for over a hour before I was okay enough to walk out
