This will happen in our lifetimes. I'm sure of it.

What we're seeing in the automotive space is a similar sea change to what happened when we transitioned from the Horse and buggy to the Model T. We had to finally land on a car/truck that normal people could afford and was as reliable as the horse and buggy.

The self driving isn't perfect and you have to pay attention, but man it is nice! We just went to Orlando and back a few weeks ago and the car drove nearly the whole way (Telsa Y). Adds a little time to a long drive and it takes longer to charge than it does to fill a gas tank. But we had time, and charging is much less expensive than this $3 and $4+ gas. At $4 a gallon I'm it is basically getting 120 mpg on home charging. About 55 mpg when charging on the average supercharger.

I've had the self driving lock up the brakes at caution lights. I've had it try to take me on a detour on a dirt road through a cornfield. So you still have to pay attention, but it will make fewer mistakes than a good human driver will. It is especially good in the city and it is an absolute dream on a 4 lane.

Still too pricey for the average person but the price will come down in time. It is certainly a glimpse into the future.

I could see every two car family having one EV and one ICE vehicle within a decade or two. Especially if gas and diesel stay like this.

Very unlikely taking into account almost every manufacturer has all but abandoned their EV programs in the last year. They are like mopeds. They will get you where you're going but they aren't really practical and if it's more than a few hundred miles it's gonna take longer. Most companies are investing more in hybrid development. Tesla drivers are involved in more accidents than any other manufacturer which is probably due to the high torque available but there are plenty of cases of the auto drive feature causing an accident. I know it's likely safer than a human operator but if I'm gonna wreck I'd prefer to be the cause rather than the victim.

I made fun of them until I rode in my buddies self driving through rush hour traffic in downtown miami and it handled it like a champ. I'm not virtue signaling and acting like they are better for the environment, but I would like to have one now.

II agree with you brother. You know I was a staunch, manual transmission, no frills, sports car, 4x4 Truck, Jeep kinda guy, but I have been impressed with the Tesla.

I think of how much more productive I could be with one of those.

Could a man be worry free on the phone, doing computer work and etc while driving one?

That specific study has been discredited because it is inherently backward. It isn’t based on “number of wrecks per vehicle”. It’s based on people who are requesting insurance quotes, what vehicle they’re requesting a quote [i]for/i], and their accident history. That means that that the wrecks the study attributed to the car happened before the driver requested the insurance quote for the car.

I’m not necessarily saying Teslas aren’t more likely to be involved in an accident, but I’m saying that particular study doesn’t prove it. It isn’t based fundamentally flawed

The older system did have issues but the current self driving system is much better.

That was the point of my first post.

I have never been a Tesla fan. I'm the guy that likes a manual transmission and a carburetor.

However, I was still impressed with the Tesla's driving ability. It was very smooth and natural feeling. It was very accurate also.
