I use a water-pik about twice a year. It works great. Look up the You Tube videos on how to do it.

I remember my pediatrician did that to mine when I was a kid. Felt good and I couldn't believe the wax that came out

I have one of these: Works great.
I use warm water.
Then 3% peroxide, over ~15 mins (put in some, let it sit, do more).
Warm water again.

Seems to help.

I have a chair in the shower and just do it in there. It would make a mess other wise.

another good think to use to help loosen up wax is docusate sodium liquid (stool softener). We would use that a lot for folks that came in the ER with wax issues. Put it in the ear canal and let it sit for about 10 min. Then we would take a syringe and irrigate the piss out of it.

Whatever you do, don’t dig around in your ear with a q tip. My FIL has permanent hearing damage from that.

Yup. Thats why I went to the ENT, at which point he educated me about the water-pik.

You can buy ear cleaners off Amazon that look like a spray bottle with a hose attached. It has a small soft plastic end that won’t reach your ear drum. Use that. Half pretty warm water and half peroxide. If that doesn’t do it after a good washing. Buy some colace and pierce the capsule and squeeze the gel in your ear canal wait about 20 mins and repeat.

I bought the ear cleaner thing, and while it was kinda cool to see inside your ear on your phone while you dug around in there, it is very dangerous to stick anything in your ear and poke around, and for me, while it did get some stuff out it also packed it all in more.

What I ended up doing was going back to a more traditional route.

Step 1: Put the ear wax softening drops in there and let them sit for several minutes per the instructions.

Step 2: Take one of the little bulb syringes filled it with warm water, get the tip in there and get pretty aggressive with shooting that water in there and flushing it out.

Repeat as many times as it takes to flush the ear wax out.

Safe and effective.

PS: Do all this over your wife's coffee cup.

I'm glad I now have something to blame for my hearing loss other than the guns, concerts, and cranked tube amps that I thought caused it.

The problem I have with cleaning out my ears is getting all the water out. Seems like it takes a week before I don’t hear the water sloshing around in my ear.

This is exactly what I do other than I don't bother Ms. Renee's coffee cup. grin

My dad has to put a couple drops of alcohol in each of his ears every time he gets out of the shower or the water will mess him up with inner ear problems.

Lay on your side and pour a cap full of Peroxide in the ear and it will boil every bit of wax out of it in about 10 minutes.
