What are the reasons?
Fuel to high?
Not enough pine?
Low demand?

It be's that way sometimes.

Raytheon Engineering and Rust Constructors designed a bunch of paper mills back in the late 90's for China. Deal was we design, give designs for free, China pays us to build.

They stole the plans and built the paper mills. I'm guessing that is coming home to roost now. Just a guess.

It put Rust Constructors out of business. Raytheon dumped all the losses into Rust and closed the doors.

285 employees but look at all the outside contractors that work there as well. I used to do a ton of work out there during shutdowns and pre-outage season. That’s probably the only thing that keeps that local hotel open.

What kind of paper did they make? Just found a short article. Tough deal. Looks like its worn out, is that true?

Unless they have changed within the last few years, they made paper for diapers.

Not good for sputtering pulpwood markets.

Bad news for the area. I used to work in the newsprint mill there over a couple of decades ago. I understand that the newsprint machines were shut down a long time ago and they were just running the pulp mill.

Antiquated equipment is the local buzz. Nemak supposedly announced the same day that they are closing 2 plants in Sylacauga due to lost contracts. If true, another 200+ local jobs.
