I need some specific advice about a non-sealed combustion gas furnace in a crawlspace...where the space was retrofitted with a full encapsulation but the unit wasn't changed to a 92% sealed unit with outside air direct venting. Vents have now been cut into the encapsulated space to temp resolve the issue.
Thanks, Mike Cell 205-82one-four07four

In a sealed environment, the unit needs makeup air for combustion and exhaust. Usually that is done with high and low vent pipes from the attic in modern new construction. I see no reason it cannot also be done with the crawlspace but that solution negates the benefits of the encapsulation. They obviously should have changed to a high efficiency furnace with air intakes and exhaust to and from the crawlspace.
Were they having carbon monoxide issue?

Were they having carbon monoxide issue? I'm early on this, so not sure what issues transpired. Just know it is outside of what I normally do...do very little MEP so need some clarification and pointing in right direction. Elderly lady who was sold a bunch of stuff from a local foundation company and now having issues. Not sure if what she was sold was needed or legitimate...sometimes it is and isn't. Haven't been to the house yet.

I can't help right now but my son made a career move, well he starts Monday, from making sure the Budweiser trucks are loaded to an apprenticeship in HVAC. That will probably come in handy for me one day. I've needed an HVAC person much more badly at times in my life than a Budweiser.
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

Well, she either needs combustion air allowed into the crawlspace or a new high efficiency furnace with fresh air vent piping ran to the outside.
We’ve had houses that have existing 90+ percent furnaces in normal crawlspaces and they encapsulate after the fact. once the crawlspace is encapsulated we run an air intake to the outside. I see this as no different.
The fool tells me his reasons; the wise man persuades me with my own.
