so the Interwebs say home remedies don’t exist - so i’m asking ALDEER 🤣
several weeks ago we were cleaning up & there were a bunch of low hanging limbs mixed with some vines - apparently there was some poison ivy/oak/sumac also in the viney stuff 🤷🏻♂️ within a day or so a small rash formed below my wrist … we’ve treated it with all sorts of ointments, creams, salves, etc & it’s still hanging around … i thought we had it gone but apparently there’s such a thing as a rebound outbreak? 🤦🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️
it’s more of a nuisance now more than anything - but curious to hear if there’s something sure-fire to knock this in the head & get it gone … it’s not spreading or getting bigger - now it’s more like dry skin but it still itches

You are at the point where anti-itch ointment is about the best you can do. Drink cranberry juice or pickle juice, the poison is now in your bloodstream and lymphatic system so that will help to flush it out.

Only thing that helps mine is a round of steroids.. I’m definitely trying the pickle juice remedy next time

I dont know if it's a remedy or not, but heat will help significantly with the itching. If you can get it hot enough, it breaks down the stuff that makes it itch and buys a good 8-12 hours of it being noticeably less itchy. You can either run hot water on it or use something like a hair dryer on spots. you have to get it right on the edge of uncomfortably hot but it's works great.

Get some cool mint Listerine to put on the rash - it kills the itch. Gotta be the brand name stuff and gotta be cool mint.

when I was an eight grader my whole forearm swelled up 2x, and oozing. I got tired of it so I scratched it and poured clorox on it, and it worked. I do believe it works better at the oozing stage. since then iv'e read and heard that clorox is actually a home remedy for it.

This is what I do. Anytime I am out in the woods and I come in contact with it, I make sure I wash all my clothes in hot water, heavy on the detergent. Then I scrub all exposed skin down with dawn and a brush. If I develop a rash, I repeat the process with dawn and a brush. When I do that, it's rare I ever get a rash, and the if I do, rewashing usually does the trick.
If it still won't go away, then prednisone, as someone else mentioned will do the trick.
You have to think of the oil on the plant as tar or grease. It doesn't just wipe off. It doesn't just wash off with a little soap. You have to put some effort in.

Prednisone will work but has to be administered soon after exposure. Poison ivy vines that climb trees are much worse than the leaves. I got popped by a Portuguese man of war once and that was awful. It left scabs up and down my legs that looked like I had been attacked by a bobcat. I was told to put vinegar on it and that made me drop to my knees in pain. (Bad idea)!

If you can keep from scratching it, it will stop spreading and eventually go away. No remedy but time and palliative treatment.

I know others that always get a shot of prednazone. If I think i'm close to it. I wash like crazy with dawn and scrub, scrub, scrub. Then I wipe down with rubbing alcohol a lot. I have also used rubbing alcohol to dry it up by applying it to the affected area numerous times a day.

we’ve treated it with all sorts of ointments, creams, salves, etc & it’s still hanging around … DO NOT use anything that moisturizes. You want the blisters to dry up. I was crazy allergic to it from the time I was old enough to wander around in the yard on up into my late 20s. I've used everything known to man on it and a paste made from powdered laundry detergent and liquid bleach worked best for me. It will light you up for a few minutes but it also dries the blisters in no time. You don't have to use bleach as the liquid for the paste if that's too strong for you. Water will work but takes longer to do the job.

if you are one that works outside with anykind of poss exposure then you need to have this on standby.
spray bottle - full of isopropyl alcohol. 91%-99% is best. it acts as a degreaser by breaking down the oil on skin, tools, and clothing, preventing it from spreading or causing a reaction. works great if applied within the first hour..
Turkey’s tell you when they want to die not lawmakers.

Years ago my grandmother couldn't get within 20 feet of poision or she would get it. Seems like I always seen Calamine lotion around, probably for that. Read up on it and online said it is for symptoms to calm itch and steriods help stop it from spreading. Grandad, the old fart would go out there and dig it up and never got itches or rash from anything that I know. He would have 10 Sevin all over his bare hands dusting peas. He live at the end of the Chlordane era, used it for those large ants living in trees and outside as a barrier, not on crops. That stuff eradicated most pests, banned now.
