Anyone go to the convention? I didn’t make it this year.
If so give us your rundown. did you get anything?
Anything that you saw that caught your eye?
anything new you saw or ran across?
Well, the way I see it is there's just too many assholes On a good day there's a bunch of assholes in here. On a bad day there's too many assholes in here.

Had a friend that was a vendor, said the line of trailers waiting to get in was unbelievable. Had also heard that there's a pretty sizable waiting list for vendors to get accepted to the show. Never been, would like to go one day.

I was there for all 3 days. Not all day but a couple of hours. It was insane at the amount of folks there all 3 days to the point you was always bumping into folks. First day is usually the best time to do your shopping not this year.
if i hadnt taken up hunting i might have became a juvenile delinquent or worst taken up GOLF

Seems to me it has turned into social media celebrity show instead of an actual turkey hunting show. I wasn’t there, two of my buddies was. Just my opinion on the outside looking in. I wouldn’t go of they paid me. But to each his own.

I wouldn’t go of they paid me. But to each his own. I work with some guys that went and they said the same thing. Too many “influencers”, duck callers, and non turkey hunting stuff. But it’s packed to the gills every day so they won’t change anything. I can tell you this for sure, there’s a significant waiting list to get a booth there and a LOT of turkey call builders that would love to get the chance at one but they are too deep into the “in” thing to make the Convention actually about just turkey hunting.

We went. It was absolutely packed on Friday. We still had fun. Bought me multiple shirts from our Bama brother in Paola Brand and talked with J as well as talked with Drew who started grounded brand. Both were great guys and I love supporting local Alabama companies.
Bunch of influencers who can screw themselves…drives me nuts seeing these women who guys drool over that suck at hunting get “famous” as well as annoying dudes who post on social media every kill.
Too crowded to really check out many of the stuff. My son had fun lol

I went Sat. and it was crazy crowded. If it wasn't for have plans for meeting Jeff from JLH striker to pick up a couple of strikers and to just chat, and to drop off a piece of wood for Buster to make me a call, I wouldn't have gone. Just way to commercialize for me, and the older I get the more I dislike crowds. I did get to meet woodleyrd, and it was a pleasure. I think it would be fun to just meet and tell lies with some of the oldtimes, but that can't happen with those size crowds.

It would be cool if we could organize an Aldeer Alabama Convention. Meet somewhere like a park, bring all your stuff you might want to sell, trade, etc. get to meet everybody and just sit around, have a cold beverage, and talk turkey hunting all day.

I saw something online where one vendor was selling a camo pop tart holder and I was like is this real. If I can’t kill one with what I have then I shouldn’t hunt anymore. Like anything else it’s got outta hand with all the latest this or that. I ain’t sure how many versions of camo a vest or a pouch these folks can come up with.

I spent part of all 3 days at the show. It was great to meet several Aldeer members and have some great conversations. It was extremely crowded and being able to browse was not happening, you better have a game plan if you have specific items or manufacturers you want to see. I did pick up a few calls, mostly from guys that are not at Unicoi. There is a lot of talk about the amount of none turkey related booths, mainly the waterfowl items. When you have 5-6 guys in a booth just steady blowing the duck/goose calls all day, was a little much. But the amount of money those booths bring in, they are here to stay.
My biggest ask of NWTF is to open up the aisles, it was hard to move around.
It’s still a good time to talk turkey with friends from around the country.

Pick your poison while you’re there. Everyone has the best calls ever made. A $20-$60+ striker or call. Best vest ever made. Most comfortable you’ll ever own most pockets. I’ve not been in 2-3 years. Friends have been. You can get what you need in the first row of vendors. Per them nothing new just more vendors selling the same stuff. Plenty of folks/attention hoes to get your picture with. Even a few dogs in the mix. I may go back just to get out a hear a turkey noise.

Taking no shots, only attempting to add perspective.
A man can find negative in any situation if he searches enough. I can be the chief pessimist also. Like woodleyrd said “it’s still a good time to talk turkey…” The turkeys, the places, and the people along the way are the important parts. I had my wife and my 10y/o boy with me, who got to blow his woodleyrd wing bone for woodleyrd himself. My boy was more excited about meeting him than doing the sound waves waterpark. The positives are a little more difficult to find, at times, than the negatives, but they are equally as present.

Did they have any good vests come out this season?

I was there all three days. We go as a family and my room was 4 doors from the wateringhole so I could come and go as I pleased. We enjoy it but no way Im getting in that traffic to go for one day. I stayed until after lunch on Saturday and never even got close the convention on that day. When we left around 1:30 on Saturday the traffic was still backed up in both directions on the interstate with people trying to get in there. You literally have to see the people to believe it.

Keep him practicing and maybe we can see him on the stage there one day. If we dont take the time to slow down and allow the kids to enjoy the experience, we will lose them. Let know if there is anything I can ever help you with! Frank FMB Turkey Calls
