Not sure if it is completely accurate, but saw a deer density chart by state. Alabama is 24.7 per square mile.
Doesn't seem to conducive to killing 2 doe's a day to me. I am sure there are area's with higher density in the state, which also means there are.lower area's too.
That means I have 38 deer on my lease.

Our place is almost exactly 1 square mile and we had 107 deer (1:3.5 BtoD)
Think it was one deer per 7 acres.
I know of at least 5 bucks that the drones didn't see that we have had on camera all year so I guess they were bedded down across the highway that morning.
North Washington county. We probably need to shoot some does.

It varies widely across the state. Morgan County property I hunt has probably seven deer PSM because people shoot every deer they see both in and out of season. Barbour County property probably has 45+ PSM and that seems to be a comfortable level. Hunted other places where is fell in between those two numbers.

Keep in mind that number is an average and includes EVERY square mile of the state. There are some places that have zero deer.

That means I have 38 deer on my lease. That is an absolutely meaningless statistic. I don't even understand why they would even bother to publish that number. What is the average density on areas that have deer habitat.

They need to publish a map with the counties highlighted and their specific density. That would be the most helpful.

I live in Marshall County. Our deer density sucks. Definitely have spots that are good but as a whole its gotta be the bottom of the barrel.

That's right , how many square miles of water, buildings , asphalt and concrete. Not to mention they don't stay in open fields 24 hours a day . 24.7 per acre sounds like a lot to me , when for the most part they live in the woods.

Other than Aldeer goobers discussing it , a chart or map that shows 24.7 deer per sq mile, statewide, is useless. Yep. The average means absolutely nothing over an area that large. Local habitat conditions are needed to know if an area is supporting the density that’s present. I don’t even care how many deer are on the landscape when doing consults. I am only concerned with “Is this habitat supporting the deer that are here.” All that’s needed.
