I bought a used Bergara Wilderness in .308 a while back. I haven’t really toyed with it much and had actually planned on using it for some semi-long range hunting. Honestly, it don’t shoot any hunting ammo to my satisfaction, so I took the scope off, topped it with a Vortex Diamondback low power scope and decided to just use it for a tree stand gun in thick places. It shoots good enough to do that, and it’s short.

Yesterday I was working on my wife’s vehicle when a deer appeared a couple hundred yards out, down the hill from the house. I let my blood lust run deep and grabbed the .308 out of the truck. I just had to know what it would do. The deer was about 185-190 yards. I propped up on the bed of my truck, settled in and let her eat. That 150 grain Norma whitetail tore that rearend up.

That afternoon, I shot a bobcat before 5 at about 80 yards. Bang flop. It was a pretty cat too. Big and beautiful pelt. With a few minutes of daylight left a doe appeared to my left at about 15 yards. I centered her lungs and left a blood trail anybody could follow. Three kills in one day is not bad for breaking her in. To top it off, my son texted me at 5:58 (last minute of our legal light) and said “Just dropped a doe a long way off.” Shot his with a .308 as well. It was a great close to the 2026 season.

I really like the Norma ammo. I hit a deal on 308 150gr Norma with the Elk on the box. They were like $15.99/box. Needless to say I loaded up on them. I think they are loaded with Norma’s Oryx bullet. They really do some damage and shoot excellent in my 308. I shot this Axis at about 150yds. First shot was perfect but he took off running and o put a second one in him dropping him with that shot. If you look closely at the picture, I stacked em pretty close in his chest. 2 holes real close together. He wasn’t getting away. But after seeing the exit holes, he wasn’t going anywhere.

Killed one 2 weeks ago uing my Bergara 7mm-08 and Norma ammo. Exit wound was just behind the far side shoulder and was about the size of a golf ball. Deer ran about 15 yards. Loaded it up in the sxs and went to check where he was standing when I shot...there was blood and internal organ matter sprayed for about 5 yards or so behind where he was standing. When cleaning it, everything in the chest cavity was pretty much liquid

Good way to end the season Matt!! I love my .308! But, I’ve been using a 400 Legend for short range out to 175yds and it has impressed me.

I love my Bergara .308 with its 18inch barrel. It was my first season hunting with it and I used it almost exclusively. Awesome in shooting houses cause u aint bumping windows with it, awesome in the woods because of its light weight. I shot 2 does, 2 bucks and 2 coyotes with it this season. My longest shot was 175 yards. I really was surprised at the lack of recoil it had. I really thought that with the light weight of the rifle the recoil was gonna be a lot more than it was. Its gonna be one of my favorite rigs in the future for sure.

Got a Bergara Wilderness Hunter in .308 with a 22" barrel yesterday. They quit making them but this was in NIB. Like the look, feel and bolt action on this rifle. Taking it to put a scope on it today and will start buying some ammo. Ready to get it to the range and figure out the bullet match.

I have a b14 ridge. 7mm, shoots great with very little recoil.

Love a good hunting story, love my family and friends. Some people you can't, but acted like do.
