How often do you have to dispatch a deer while tracking? Very few during bow season but during gun season probably every third or fourth recovery has to be dispatched……Its usually leg shots or low gut shots

If they pass this and you gotta use a handgun, get you a 10" Contender in 30 Herrett or something similar. A deer ain't walking away from a proper hit with that gun, and it's light enough to not be a burden to carry. For trailing with a dog, the most efficient way to carry it would be a shoulder holster. That would leave both hands free to deal with the dog, and you can pull it quickly if you need to shoot. Brace against a tree and shouldn't have any problem making a proper shot on a bayed deer.
That's what I would carry as a tracker, even if a rifle were legal. Just a suggestion Thanks I'll check it out.......Here's my current setup......I wear it like a backpack......Works great ![[Linked Image from i.imgur.com]](https://i.imgur.com/khcIsWq.jpeg) That looks good! I don't blame you for using it as long as you can, but there are alternatives with handgun types already mentioned that will work about as well. But if forced to change, it will just be another worthless government regulation that accomplishes nothing except make it harder for someone to do their job.
All the labor of man is for his mouth, and yet the appetite is not filled.

I can tell y'all first hand tracking dogs don't hold a candle to the sketchy crap happening with thermals and drones. I've loaded my dogs up a couple times when a drone and 5 or 6 rednecks were headed in to finish him off after my dogs couldn't track it but the drone found it. 🤣🤣 but my dogs are unethical. They didn't get the deer either but but the drone sure did chase it around after my dogs couldn't. I know one of these was after 2 different dogs had told them the deer was very alive and well... And I know many others stories like it as well.
