Anyone around the HSV area have any good or bad feedback on the local HVAC dealers? My attic unit (gas heat & AC) is 11 going on 12 years and seems to be starting to breakdown at least once a year on the heat and ac side. I'm thinking of replacing the unit and wanted to hear from others. Is there a popular brand these days that seems to be better? Or are they the same with a name change? My house is one-story, 2400 sq ft.
My recent issue was the heat quit working. I reset the breaker, and it seemed to work of course when the technician was here, and he couldn't find anything except assumptions. I'm not paying $900 for assumptions that have been working fine for a week.
Thanks.

The Batey Brothers that post here do work over that way. You will not get better service.
"Why do you ask"?

As far as brand, There are some I prefer over others. And some I would absolutely stay away from. Goodman, Amana and Daikin are the better options out there right now. IMO. They handled covid better and they handled the refrigerant changeover our industry is dealing with better. What brand is the current system? Being a gas system, and it’s having an intermittent issue, it’s likely a sticking pressure switch, flame sensing issue or burner problem- but without seeing the issue or knowing more details- we are only left assuming

The tech said it maybe be some capacitor, and airflow issue due to dirt on the air blower fan. Pisses me off that i agreed to get the ducts and a something in the unit cleaned a few months ago, and it didn’t include the blower. And it wasn’t asked if i wanted it. You don’t clean out 90 percent and leave a blower fan.

I'm confused, are you looking for an equipment dealer/warehouse or an install and service company?
In Huntsville, Whittichen is one of the best and also one of the best supply houses IMO, Baker distributing is also a good spot but I mostly use them for refrigeration and ice makers and stuff. You alsmost certainly need a business license to order form any of the major supply houses directly though.
For service and install, the only company I use who also does residential is Air Care Systems but they have good service and usually come in best on price when we've bid out system replacements

Owner is a good guy, and they take care of customers. I'm not sure if the price is the lowest, but I'd pay more for their service.

JB is right on, refrigerant issue is a fiasco and Daikin group did it right.

Amana/Goodman is what we install and have been the most reliable for me for the last 15yrs! I just know the Trane can be stopped!(40+warranty calls last year)

Daiken 2 ton from Durham Service for us in Hampton Cove. And they got us the TVA rebate and paperwork to file for the tax rebate as well. Works great and no fancy EPA Freon stupidity. Really long warranty too
