I have an abundance of turnips and don’t want to waste them. Have any of you froze them after cooking? I am planning to put them in zip lock bags and eat all winter. Is there a better way?

My grandparents would treat them like potatoes (don't wash) - find a cool spot (they stored in a root cellar) with no Sun, pack with straw, and don't let them touch.

Would that work with the greens/tops or just the roots? We have cooked turnips and also collards and then frozen them. Been good even after 2+ years in the freezer.

yes - we freeze our cooked collards all the time - bag them after they’ve cooled down - get as much air out of the bags as you can they will last a long time

I freeze mine in rubbermaid containers. I put in greens and "pot liquor" throw the lid on and put them in the freezer.

They only did the roots - the greens were always cooked. I can't remember for certain, but I want to say that my grandma canned hers (greens). We vacuum pack (the greens) them and freeze them.
