It's buy the kid a rifle season. It's worth considering that budgets often want what's cheapest. If you remove Creedmoor, .308 and /06 you have a list of truly low recoil kiddo cartridges.
This list comes from one of the most popular ammo sales websites. The cartridges are listed in order of sales from most to least. The least cartridges were available in at least three different loads. All had a load suitable for medium game. None cost more than $20/box although you can certainly find more expensive if you want.

My Ruger American Ranch in 7.62x39 is a great plinker, it cost $400 new & .23 per round to shoot & I took my last 2 deer with it…1 shot each. I’m about ready to break my grandson in on it. I imagine the .223 would be good also & cheaper ammo, I just like shooting a 30 caliber.

Surprised the 243 didn't make the cut. I’d certainly do that before the 223. Im partial and admit it but I love my .25-06. The older I get the more I appreciate the recoil, or lack thereof actually.

For a kid, I’d add a few extra dollars a box and get the 350 legend. 180gr bullet with zero recoil is hard to beat. No taking anything away from the list as I have killed deer with all of them except the 300 Blackout.

If you already own an AR then go with a 6.5 grendel upper. You can then swap it to plink with the 223/556 and hunt with the Grendel
123 grn Hornady sst is a thumper on the deer and light on the shoulder. 129 grn Nosler accubond long range is thors hammer on deer and light still on the shoulder.

If I owned a modern sporting rifle, I’d own one in .223/556, 7.62x39, 6.8 SPC2, 6.5 Grendel, 350 legend, and a 6mm ARC. I would have probably killed multiple deer with all of them except the 6ARC because I probably wouldn’t have hunted with it yet. And they would all be basically recoil free. Any would be a great choice for a kid. Especially with the adjustable stocks.

My grandson shoots a 7mm-08, He is 8 and it has very little recoil. I prop it up in the shooting house window and he handles it from there. Cartridges are no more expensive than my 30-06.
