Like animals can see in different wavelengths of light than humans, smells have to be the same way. I can't smell corn at all. I wonder if adding apple scent, etc. to it really helps. We can smell it, but does that translate to what molecules deer can smell better?

It amazes me how fast they can find it. I wont put out any corn from end of January until October and there will be a deer on the corn within a couple of hours.

My father in law always soaked some in water in a bucket for two or three days before starting a new corn pile . He seemed to think it would start to get a bit of a fermented small to it which they would smell further away. It never took them long to find it. Just don’t do this. Aflatoxins produce down to 60 degrees and are terrible for deer and turkeys. Same with the whole Mountain Dew thing. The whole mt.dew thing......they love that chit. I don't see what it's hurting. There's some idiots out here pouring clorox out as an attractant.... Don’t knock the Clorox stump until you try it. Preach!

I filled feeders on one of my farms I hunt this past Friday and corn was everywhere on the ground under all the spin feeders. Deer are on acorns right now, their natural food favorite and aren't coming to corn.

Hang a potato sack half full of corn where nothing can reach it. If you feed runs out they’ll still come by to check from the smell of corn in sack.

I was bow hunting a new area after hurricane Micheal ruined all my bow stands. Telling you a put out a bag of corn and sat in the bushes. 39 minutes later I had does walk straight to the pile. They grew into hamburgers.... Sometimes it don't take them long ..

If you pour a bag of corn on the ground, they can't see it unless they walk by it.
How far away can they smell it?
Do they see other deer feeding and walk over to see what is happening?
My cousin asked me and I wasn't sure. I explored this question myself…Believe the results or not ! One year on an Army base I drew what I would usually consider a crappy spot, it was on what one would call a runway overrun area on an alternate landing area that never got used. Anyway, it was tall-ish grass that got mowed a few times per year. I was in an old permanent tree-stand amongst some oak trees off to the side of this overrun. To entertain myself I tried crazy experiments. I’ll shorten a season long story and go straight to the corn. On this day I put four different items about 50 yards apart just to see what deer would go to. I watched a deer come a thousand yards to 1 handful of corn. This day also told me that a man that thinks a deer can’t smell them is crazy. Yes they can smell it !

Heck acorns don't have any smell to humans either. Deer's sense of smell is 1,000 times better than ours, they smell the corn just like they smell the acorns under the leaves.

It’s simple. Shelled corn. But what about flavors and scents? Shelled corn. What about acorn rage and blocks? Shelled corn. Just regular shelled corn. Don’t complicate it.
