I don’t have problems killing deerz, it’s finding the particulars ones that seem to give me trouble.

We’ve got a few swamp chestnuts on our club. Usually, if they are falling, the older deer flock to them. It looks like a hog pen under them. This year there are more acorns under them than ever. Just a blanket of smooth leaves over more acorns than I’ve ever seen. I couldn’t put my foot down without stepping on one. My theory is that there are so many acorns on the ground that they don’t need to root in the leaves for them.

I use feeders with cell cams on them and I love it. Why ?

I know what I have on the property in the age structure of bucks and also I can estimate the numbers of doe's and bucks that are on the property.

That doesn't mean I blast every deer that walks up to a feeder. As a matter of fact, FOR ME , it doesn't just help me to be better informed on what I have, but it also gives me a better idea how to manage what I have. My feeders go off one time a day and put a handful of corn on the ground each time they go off. The deer are not dependent on my feeders. They have acres of wheat, oats, rye, and clover to munch on for their main nutrition. The feeders just help get them in front of the cameras long enough to see what I have.

Sure, people abuse it. But those same people were hunting over corn and cameras before it was legal, and they will be hunting over corn and cameras if they are ever illegal again. But for those who are trying to improve their deer hunting by managing what they have they can be a useful tool.

And yeah, for somebody trying to pile em up, it can do the same.

It seems like when I want to them the does out with my bow I can’t get em to come to a corn pile. It’s like they know what I’m trying to do. I got to find a way to trick em. Play mind games with them. Fight fire with fire.

Very well said. I feel the same way. Deer really hit the corn hard early but dropped off considerably when the acorns started falling about a month ago.

I am just ready to go hunting! In clark i get to watch some of the same deer every year - its fun. The friday of muzzy i could hav shot at really big deer - but he and others hav disappear since - guessing acorns and my neighbor has most of the acorns

Other than blacks that own no land - my neighbors are pretty good

Camden spot is rough now - some wise guy cutting me off. Did pick up spot from inlaws - small - neghbir has shooting house on line u can see from my big field and the deer will to every time he leaves - but got one more field that may produce - place is all pine

I just like to hunt and will adapt to the laws and the land

All I know is my processor is down so many deer this year it’s beginning to be concerning. Not for the deer population, but for their business. 🤷🏼‍♂️

They’ve taken on a lot less deer.

If hunters would just be patient , wait till food is scarce the last 3 weeks of season and most hunters have packed it in, those processors numbers would go up. Put out corn a plenty and hunt smart , pile 'em up. The rut and late season is the time to kill big uns.

Ton of does this year Matt. I hunt wayside, BGrove, Lost John, and one spot Detroit. I’m sure they will get busy soon. I did hear they were slow.

Absolutely. There’s deer EVERYWHERE but people around here aren’t killing them.

Road from Auburn to Union Springs this morning just before daylight and didnt see a single deer......none dead on the roads either

So despite the fact that beef prices are sky high........the woods are full of deer everywhere and hunters just arent shooting them??.......Hmmmm

They ain't killin' 'em because they aren't in front of a camera with their head in a corn pile right now. Overall there is NO SHORTAGE of deer state wide .

Or they aren't killing them because they have been fully indoctrinated in the trophy buck hype and dont want to kill anything except the 2 or 3 "hit list" bucks they have on camera.

The folks I tracked for in Bullock Co this morning were just talking about how they dont have as many deer as they used to.

The three places I get to hunt have more deer than ever.

The Bullock Co I know could lose deer and still have a lot of em.

None of the 6 deer we killed last weekend was killed around corn. Clear cuts and creek bottoms. 1 was killed crossing a field road. The corn hunters were disappointed. The father and son that had to hunt the corn only saw turkeys, yearlings and the occasional spike. The 2 bucks killed were traveling from acorns to bedding. They walked straight across a clear cut. Every deer I saw was in hardwood creek bottoms or clear cuts. Killed the 2nd mature doe with my Dad’s old 30-30 I bought for him for Christmas of 1988. Mom gave the rifle back to me when Dad passed in 2011. That doe made deer #2 I’ve killed with it. She was sucking up acorns like a Hoover vacuum cleaner.
