I’m trying to see if there is any gray area around the transport regs for feral pigs. Is it legal to buy live, barred young boars from a trapper (no sows) in Alabama?

May be wrong, but I am pretty sure that the only legal way to transport feral pigs from one location to another, in AL, is if they are dead. Matt and Troy will know for sure.

I hope this isn’t true. We have trapped them and penned them up and fed out on corn then processed.
Thought the illegal part was releasing them.

Looked it up.

"It is illegal to transport feral pigs in Alabama. Transporting live feral swine is prohibited by law to prevent the spread of the invasive species, and any trapped or captured feral swine must be killed on the spot. The only exception is if you have a special permit from the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, or if the feral swine are transported across state lines under a permit issued by the Alabama Department of Agriculture and Industries."

Good to know. Won’t go down that road again.
We did it one time with a couple young ones. Excellent tasting but too much trouble.

I don't know about AL, but the two states I do know about require jumping hoops with direct government involvement. If you want economical and lean, keep an eye out for show hogs for sale. After those kids tend them so much they don't always want to eat them.

If transport wasn't illegal, they'd literally have to catch you red-handed releasing them. Which would be impossible.

Interesting fact, that yall can look up if you want. Game laws prohibit trasporting feral hogs. Agriculture laws says theres no such thing as a feral hog. They belong to the landowner whos property they are on. Its technically illegal for a deer processor to process a hog in alabama. But i beleive theres only like two people enforcing ag laws in the state, so its basically not enforeced

Nah, Strictlybow moved those hogs to feed them out 10 yrs ago. Didnt you strictlybow? Statute of limitation for misdemeanor game laws is 1 yr and on serious game offenses and most felonies in AL is 5 yrs.

He thought they was dead. Then we he got down to the creek to bury them, they jumped and run off. Its a freakin miracle.

A bar hog is some good eating fattened up on corn mash, feed, and fresh water. Some of the best bacon I ever had came off one years ago. I usually don't go for adding cost to licenses, but a special permit to transport at least in the same county would be a great way to add $$ to DNR's pockets. I would rather transport one to the processor live due to decrease spoilage. I bet folks would find a way to start up more processor's strictly for wild hogs if we funneled some $'s from the special fees or licenses to help them. Current system is not working!
