57, went this morning to have a look over. Had him cut off a few things. There was a small growth next to my nose, I never though anything about and he was like we need to get rid of that before it turns into something.

Thing you may be concerned with may be nothing, but things you see as nothing may be important to remove sooner than later. It was quick and easy. Certainly an ounce of prevention vs pound of cure situation.

Good suggestion. I've several instances of "we need to make that go away". Thankfully none were serious but its well worth the exam. Exactly with the colonoscopy. I hate it but every time they keep a little bit of me with them.

I have an appointment in a month.

Not looking forward to it....

Good reminder for those of us that grew up without sunscreen and thought a tan was a healthy look. I have had several excisions; one required 28 stitches on my ear. Dr. Krell at Total skin did a great job
Remind the young ones to wear their sunscreen.

Went the day we shut down (.gov) and had 2 cut off. Stitches just came out last week. Good suggestion bb.

Went last week and had a suspicious spot removed from my hand. Turned out to be nothing but I’m glad I got it taken care of. Good advice for sure.

I go once a year.

I have had two basal cell cut off. I go yearly for ck up. Seems like they freeze something off every year. Young and dumb as a kid shirt off no sunscreen

All of us outdoor types are at greater risk. I can't count the number of pre-cancerous or early stage skin cancers I've had frozen or cut out. Early detection can save your life. I lost my brother in law to a melanoma in his scalp that was too far advanced when detected. He fought as long as he could, but it was a miserable way for a great guy to go out. Get checked once a year

This and colonoscopies. Two types of cancer few would die of with checks. Wife had a big chunk of her upper arm removed years ago for the most insignificant little thing that turned out to be Melanoma

Yep I had a place removed and it came back spreading Melanoma. Every 6 months for me now, and at 47 I started wearing sunscreen.

Yep, go get checked! Like said already, most of us here have lived our lives outside in the sun. I had a mole get funky last year and my wife (RN) hounded me until I got it checked. It was melanoma, had it cut off and the surgeon took plenty of margins, came back ok.

I had a friend who had a thingy on his nose , spot or two on his ear lobes, a couple of skin tags on his neck.... said he lived with em for a long time and never were a bother to him... he takes another friends advice to go see a skin doctor ,,

The skin doctor goes to work on these things.. cleans him up ... didn't tell him though that he fears skin cancer so sends stuff off for biopsy ... calls him back some couple of weeks later and tells him to come into his office for a consultation,, tells him skin cancer ...

Weird thing though,,, it wasn't until that Doctor messed with these growths that they turned on him.... every thing he burned or cut off , they weren't healing up real good... he was told the he's got to get treatment, with what all the treatments he received and all the care they could give him .. almost two years later he died from the cancer..

He told me not long after getting home ,,,he wished he'd a never gone to that Doctor ,,,said, he was ok until that Doctor messed with those things,,, says he fully believed it wasn't cancer till the Doctor messed with em ,... then said to me ,, if you have something on you and it if ain't hurting leave it alone , it was pretty much ,,if it ain't broke don't fix it.

Bad advice

Very bad advice. I'm a throat/tongue cancer survivor, believe me you don't want none of that. Took me 2 years to get over the chemo and radiation. I was one of the lucky ones. Cancer sucks

I had to have that MOHS surgery on my cheekbone last year. Deep melanoma. Dr. Phan Dermo in Montgomery sent me to Bham for that. There were 2 dermatologists working on me to get all the margins. Took about two hours and 5 or 6 different biopsies to the lab, before they said all clear. Then I had to go next door to Dr Long, an Ophthalmologist that also had a fellowship in plastic surgery. He close the gigantic flap on my face, because it right up against the eye socket. He had to go back in about 6 months later to clean out the scar, didn't like how it had puffed up with irritation. Maybe some trash got left in the wound. I've had several places frozen or scraped off. I hate that zapping machine. I told her that it reminded me of Pavlov's dogs experiment. I knew it was going to hurt every time she pulled the trigger...lol Fishing is what gets me. I use sunscreen but sweat in the summer. I guess I need to re-apply. That stuff stings like hell when it gets in the eyes from sweat...ugh

My wife had been at me for several years to have my Dr look at a small “freckle” looking spot in the middle of my upper back. I could never remember to ask my Dr to look at it until one time when I was at my annual checkup. I said my wife has been bugging the crap outta me about a spot on my back. She looked at it and said it doesn’t look like much but I’ll send you to a dermatologist and let him look at it. He says the same thing but decides to biopsy it. I go back to work in Papua New Guinea a week later when they call back and said I need to come in immediately as it was stage 2 melanoma. When I got back home, he cut out a spot that took 13 staples to sew up. He told me that I was lucky and probably would have had really bad problems with it in the future had he not removed it. That was in 2019 and you won’t see me outside in the sun for an extended period without a long sleeve shirt on. Fishing or at the river/beach, I’ve got one on plus a big sun hat. I go back to him every year for a look see. So far so good. Do not take it for granted as it kills a pile of men every year and it’s easily preventable.
