Always something to be broke and always someone who wants you to use your farm tractors like skidders and dozers. I’ve done it a lot of years, but this year gonna cap it off for me I think. Club “discounts” aren’t worth it. Let me pay regular money like everyone else and just show up with some nippers, and set around at crossroads drinking beer and shooting the chit like rest of em.
I actually got to be a road nipper guy yesterday at my new club, first time ever in a Hunting club I didn’t have to be the tractor guy. When you farm for a living, everyone assumes you can bring your tractor. But I’ll tell ya, that road clipping ain’t bad work at all. I could get used to that!! 😁😁😁
Another thing I always find comical, is how guys want to plant food plots and how important they think food plots are. People way over complicate food plots, how to plant, what to plant, when to plant etc etc. Just always comical to me.
Equipment guys at clubs will always get the short end of stick, someone always wants some crazy road or lane made, or try and make grass grow in a load up pad etc etc.
Just random thought this morning. 😁 AMEN on that.. i get a kick outta the guys that think a dang game plot has to be tilled to be productive

I've done all of the planting for years, a few guys chip in to do the bushhogging but past that I do the rest. I don't mind at all I enjoy tractor therapy and the results, the only rule I have is I chose the helpers I don't want the needless opinions from armchair internet educated hobby farmers

What people are describing here is soon going to be a mass problem at clubs everywhere. Farm equipment has become a high tech, high margin industry. Take a look at John Deere stock post-covid. As older, cheaper, "piddling around" tractors wear down, you soon won't be able to find parts or anyone to work on them at an affordable price. The days where you could find anyone within a mile or two in rural America who knew how to fix a tractor and would help you out for some side cash are just about gone. Agriculture is now dominated by millionaire row croppers who lease thousands of acres and the knowledge isn't being passed down from small farm to small farm.
The deer hunting hobby has long benefited from a surplus of small farmers with excess knowledge, equipment, and time. There is no generation replacing them and the few left won't be bushhogging and planting your plots for free. Get ready for the days where a club is paying nearly as much in maintenance work as they do for the lease itself. You will be begging anyone with a working tractor and equipment to join your club for free.

AMEN on that.. i get a kick outta the guys that think a dang game plot has to be tilled to be productive Especially the ones where "Muh deddy been doing it this way for 50 years!"......Meanwhile the field is eat up with gulley erosion and there's 10 tons of silt washed off into the watershed.
Folks that know don't shoot old does........

I’ve actually wondered if food plots are even necessary. I guess if you have kids that hunt and need a good shooting house to sit in they are. At our club most of the bucks we take are from hunting in the woods, not over food plots. I rarely hunt food plots, I like to get in deep and hunt the woods. Our club has a ton of deer on it and I’m pretty sure they don’t depend on the crappy food plots we planted to sustain their dietary needs. But, it seems it’s been so ingrained in our minds that we need big beautiful food plots that we spend mass amounts of money to plant them.
For years I wasn’t in a club and hunted some family property. Wasn’t a food plot to be seen, just hardwoods and hollers. Killed a pile of deer in those woods. When I stopped doe killing off green fields, bucks started being killed on them. It's fun to watch multiple bucks feeding on a field. Never saw that before, at least during deer season. Killing them in the woods works to, but dragging them out is a PITA.

And I agree about shooting does on food plots. Keep pressure on plots as low as possible

Howl has zero understanding and is woefully ignorant when it comes to the costs of a tractor. I bet he doesn’t own a business either. Tractors cost a lot of money. Implements cost a lot of money. Keeping a tractor running costs a lot of money. If you own a tractor, it is best you keep it secret and just be part of the clear the roads crew.

throw and mow may not produce the “best looking” greenfields to most but it sure is easy to take care of the planting of 35 acres on 4,000 acre lease with a side by side and let the 4-5 tractor members go…. there’s no way i’d take my tractor and spend the 15-16 hours to offset the dues. i can spray them all and plant them in less time than what 1 member would spend on their tractor that didn’t even include the actual planting.
Give me bout 15 more minutes, I was dreamin about beavers..........

I do a good bit of tractor work at a few places.
One thing I have noticed is many folks think a tractor can be driven like a race car around a property
They drive them way too fast and try to work too fast for what they are doing on rough terrain.
Always leads to breaking stuff
Well, the way I see it is there's just too many assholes

I usually do our club with wife sowing with atv spreader I enjoy it . I usually pull corn planter one year then throw and mow oats wheat and clover and beans 2 years

I’m the tractor guy for my club.
I’m also the only club member, so it works out perfectly.
I joined a river bottom club several years ago to hunt with my elderly neighbor.
There was a group of guys from north Alabama that always did all the planting.
The club president called me the week before they were going to plant all the fields on the 5K acres.
He told me to bring my tractor, disc, spreader and cultipacker and drop it off so those guys could use it.
I still laugh when I think about my response to that demand. 😁

I’ve planted plots on clubs I’ve been in for years. Everyone knows about how bad the equipment gets beat up, but no one has said anything about how bad the equipment’s operator gets beat up. I’ve ran my personal tractors & equipment and tried my best to not be too hard on it. Like many of us, I’ve seen times I could barely get off a tractor to load it up on a trailer. The next day, I’d feel like someone beat me & ran over me. I’ve seen club members running borrowed tractors like they were earth movers. Try helping planting two good sized clubs, and a few plots on your own land, a few years in a row. That’ll take a lot of fun out of it.

I’ve never been in a real hunting club with other members but back when I was younger and dumber a friend of mine from south Florida asked me if I’d plant his plots as his place was only about a mile from my farm. I did and the first year they looked great, I only charged him $500 on top of what he had in seed/fertilizer even though I ruined a back tire on my 5085. Well the next year he wanted me to plant in September so I did and it turned dry and I reckon the dove ate up all his seed. I told him it was too early but he wanted “bow plots.” He was cool but his loud yankee wife came down opening weekend and asked me if I was the one who ruined all of her husband’s food plots for the season. I was as nice as I could be at the moment.
Another year I planted all but the last plot for the big wig of the company I was working for at the time. My tractor broke down on the last plot and I called my buddy to come help me tryn figure out what was the matter. (Ended up being a bumblebee stuck in the fuel line where it turns 90* into the fuel water separator) Dude came down there and had a fit cause we were drinking beer planting his plots for free. Didn’t slow us down we loaded up and left. Never again
