My cousin just got bumped up to hunter for Upper State opening weekend of bow season......He's saying that it says "hunter choice" but that area is in Zone B that doesnt allow for doe harvest until the 25th......Are SOA's exempt from that or is his hunt a buck only hunt?? I found the rules for it......looks like that's a buck only hunt......Probably why its getting turned down I guess I turned it down, but I didn’t realize it was buck only. I thought they made the rules even if they were less restrictive.

Upgraded to HUNTER on Thigpen on 1/1 and ALTERNATE at Thigpen 1/29. Debating on taking hunt on New Year’s weekend or declining and rolling dice on late rut hunt.

That many Portland draws, on just members of this site, and all the alternates all getting upgraded to hunter and still getting alternate notifications for other hunts......something just doesnt sound right. It just means that some folks with alot of points got drawn for multiple cedar creek/portland landing hunts and once they select one, those other spots go back into the pool.

The white oaks weren’t dropping in my unit and no swamp chestnuts so I hunted the water oaks and saw deer and pigs. Passed on a 115” 9 point at 12 yards.

I was wondering if there is a way to find out the harvest data on SOA’s by unit and the bucks and does killed per hunt? Anyone have an idea other then filing a FOIA request with the state?

When is the rut at Upper State? I got a 1/15 hunt. Is it started by then yet? I don't hunt that far south very often. Or is upper state not worth the hassle. TIA

I believe the rut in that area is late January so they will probably be getting started around the time of your hunt

I went and had a great time. I saw 10-15 deer most hunts, shot 2 does, and missed what would have been my best bow buck.
