Heard them barking and went out to find they had already bit the snake into about 10" from its tail. Two collies bit, one doesn't look to bad, the other is a solid fang hit beside her eye. Dang!

I hate snakes!

The good news is that they are much, much less likely to ever be bitten again. We had dogs get bitten every once in a while but I don't think any of them ever got bitten twice. The same for being sprayed by skunks. They learn the lesson the hard way but it takes.

Thanks guys. Just got home a little while ago to check on them. My wife took them to the emergency vet. $2000 and no anti-venom. Not really sure what I got for my money... Haven't really got to look over the bills.

Here's the momma dog. She's 11 years old.

I think they'll both be OK. They're pretty pitiful though.

Vet said mild to moderate envenomation. In the pic you can see she only got one fang beside her right eye. A full load would be really tough. The little momma dog only weighs about 30 pounds...

One of them is half Aussie and half Border Collie. He loves the water but isn't a strong swimmer. Haven't had the two girl dogs around the water. They, and the male mostly are yard dogs and watch our chickens.

I have a border collie that tries to avoid water like I try to avoid chiggers. She's like a goat though. Over the weekend I was building a deck/porch. She was up on it before the decking boards were down, walking the joists.

That poor dog looks like it's having a terrible time of it RR. I hope she heals up quickly.

Holly crap never go to the emergency vet. My 8# wiener has been bit twice my old curs once and twice and our bills weren’t that much combined.

Looking at the momma dog closer, she caught both fangs. Poor old girl. They'll both get up to go outside, occasional tail wag, etc. They'll be ok.

They are both on pain meds and are pretty comfy right now. They are inside and cool. They'd be in agony if it weren't for the meds.

Ya got ya a$$ robbed is what ya got😂😂. I’ve had hundreds of hunting dogs bitten by every poisonous snake in North America and never had but one die (she actually bled out after being bitten twice in the neck hitting an artery) and none ever taken to the vet. Our cur got hit by a cottonmouth last week and was swollen up way worse than the one in the pic. Table spoon of Benadryl and the next morning you’d never know he’d been bit, he didn’t even get bacon grease on a biscuit!
