Almost posted this on 49er's cougar thread, but decided not to hijack. I took the pic this afternoon in north Bullock county. We've hunted the area for lots of years without seeing any evidence of bears...but I reckon there's one here now. It rained pretty hard earlier today...I think it came through within the last few.

You sure that's not the front of a Squatch track? LOL
There's sure enough large blocks of timber in Bullock county for bears. I heard one was run over on I-85 near or in Bullock county this year.

Furflyin - when I saw it my first thought was it was some big club footed human trespasser. then I found back foot tracks too...just not as defined. Probably just passing through but I hope he hangs out. I've never seen one in the wild.

We've seen several sets of tracks at our farm in Washington County, but only had one actual sighting.

Bear are not as uncommon as people think in Alabama! We had a couple of small bears three years ago stay the entire summer in colbert Ccunty. Many people in the community saw them and no one bothered or shot at them. When they left, they have not been seen again. Pretty neat creatures to say the least. The only problem with the bears was every time I went into the woods in the dark, I always thought I might encounter one and him not like me invading his sapce.
I can't stand a thief.

We had some very, very strange scratch marks on some trees on the edge of a hardwood ridge about head high a few years ago on or club in Cherokee CO. Some folks thought they were cat scratches but I heard someplace once that bears will do that. I may be wrong but thought I heard that. Also on a club I was in in Tallapoosa Co once, a guy had on video where something had rubbed several large, I'm talking, 1-2 foot diameter hardwoods in a bottom. I found them later on and they were wierd looking. They said it was buck rubs but I had my doubts. I later found cat tracks that were twice as big as a snuff can. The can would sit in the pad of the track. Never know what's in them woods boys!!!

About three years ago a bear appeared on the side of the road(78 Highway) dead near Sumiton in Walker County. It stayed there for a couple of days and then vanished.
I don't know where it came from or how it got there but it was a bear and apparently bears happen.
Always remember that safety comes first. Then pull the trigger.
