The director is appointed by the commissioner who is appointed by the governor. OK, so it is an appointed position and not a hire based on merit. What I thought, just didn't know who made the appointment.

For some reason I thought I saw somewhere that a new Director was appointed yesterday but I can't find it today. You may be thinking about Tim Woods being appointed as head of AWF. I saw that yesterday or so.

Brae is right. It’s not an appointed position. They’re hired through the normal state process. The job is posted on the personnel website and a selection is made. They very well may know who they are going to hire beforehand, but they must follow the same hiring procedures as any other state position.

This is straight from Alabama law….AL Code § 9-2-61 The Division of Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries shall be a division of the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources and shall be headed by and be under the direction, supervision and control of the Director of the Division of Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries. He shall be appointed by the Commissioner of Conservation and Natural Resources with the approval of the Governor.
