About 3 weeks ago, I was able to get out recently float a local river here in East TN. The weather and water were perfect and the cicada emergence was happening.
The fishing was non-stop ALL day long. I caught well over 50 fish all on a topwater popper. Mostly smallmouth, but some rock bass and redbreasted sunfish too.
A smallmouth puke this up when I brought it into the kayak:
I didn't hear any cicadas, but they were fairly common if you looked. I'm sure that's one reason why topwater was on fire.
Also saw some yellow stoneflies...
One of the best days I've ever had for smallmouth, although I've only ever mostly fished for them in north Alabama. I think I'm going to like it here just fine in Tennessee!
