Devil’s Horse is my favorite. Fire Tiger in the spring and back and white later in the year. Also caught a lot on a bass colored Tiny Torpedo.
It’s all about technique. Throw it out there and just twitch it every few seconds.

you piqued my interest - scored a jointed minnow Rapala on eBay on the cheap - as soon as it comes in i’ll be tossing it at some places i fish at … thx for the tip - i’d seen them before but thought they caught men vs fish bc they’ve always looked kinda “odd” to me

The devil horse is the all time leading bass topwater bait. Hands down. Throw something else until it’s almost dark and you hear the bass start hitting the top like they always do. Pick up the devil horse and work it like Dixiepatriot said. Snatch it… let it sit 3-5 seconds… snatch it twice… let it sit. When they blow up on it don’t set the hook like you think you should. Have fun

I have caught hundreds of bass on a tiny torpedo and a pop-r type topwater. Early in the mornings, late in the afternoon or overcast days seem the best for me. And I work them pretty fast compared to most people.

Berkley el Choppo...top water, 2 trebles...tail is a torpedo. Spots love them in the mornings on the Cahaba

I bought a whopper plopper for the first time the other day. Took it straight to the pond at like 4pm in full sun and hot. Landed 4 on it and got 3 other good blow ups.

Lots of good advice here. I love topwater fishing.

Love buzzbaits. I cut my teeth as a youngun with buzzbaits; a buzzbait fish was my first ever bass on an artificial lure and that instilled confidence and I threw buzzbaits all the dang time as a kiddo/teen. I've got three tied on right now - black one for night fishing, a small white (finesse, I guess?) one, and (my favorite, if I had to pick a favorite) a chartreuse/white megastrike cavitron. That bait will flat catch fish.

Jitterbugs are fun. Slow rolling a big jointed black jitterbug after dark will keep you on your toes; those blowups will about make you soil yourself.

KVD sexy dawg jr. is tough to beat for a walking bait. I know it sounds odd but I catch just as many mid day with the sun right overhead as I do at dusk and dawn.

Whopper ploppers are good; I like letting my kids fish wp's....can't screw it up, just toss and reel steady.

I SUCK at frog fishing. Just plain suck. I could practice and make myself get better but I have a hard time putting down other topwaters options that are catching fish. smile

Spook catches some big fish. Whopper ploppers work good but scare the hell out of me unhooking fish. Nearly got stuck several times by those trebles.

Went out for a couple of hours last night....I bought a bone-colored spook to take to the beach this weekend for Reds and Specks; never fished one so figured I'd give it a try last night just to get the hang of working it. That may be my new favorite bait. Only caught 1 but missed 3 others (got too excited and set the hook too quickly). Man.....the blow-ups! When bass go after that thing, they get their quick and in a bad mood. Not gonna lie, those blowups made me a little tingly in places I wouldn't admit to most folks 🤣
