Something dang sure needs to be brought into play. It's gotten beyond ridiculous. All it would take is the coaches getting together, shaking hands and saying "the players can do what they want. Quit the team and jump in the portal if you dont like where you are. We all agree not to pick them up from the portal unless they have their scholarship pulled by their original school, or have graduated. Problem solved, don't have to get the schools, NCAA or legal involved. Coaches quit picking them up and all the team jumping crap will immediately stop. Let the portal fill up, and just let all those kids sit there with no place to play and no place willing to take them. Message sent, and it will only have to be sent once.

Bama didn’t earn a spot plain and simple. They controlled their own destiny and didn’t execute well enough. The AD crowing about out of conference games was a bit “Karenish”. Just own the situation and move on, acting like Bama is some type of victim just weakens the mentality going forward. Roll Tide anyway!!

As much as I'd like to see Bama in the playoff, they did not deserve to be there this year. 2 really bad losses to unranked teams and multiple other games that had they gone on for just a couple more minutes (GA and SC), could have also be additional losses. Good teams handle their business and dont lose the games they are supposed to win. Nobody was dominant this year, but with 3 losses, even as a Bama fan, I can openly admit that they did not deserve to be there. Are they better than some teams that made it? Yes, probably so, but once again, handle your business like you should, and nobody can keep you out.

I couldn’t care less about all the transferring. I don’t know why some people care about that so much. Maybe one of yall can explain why it needs to stop.

Nick Saban did a pretty good job of explaining it. His thing was that you can't develop young men, build a team mindset or have continuity. He makes some good points. I personally don't have a problem with paying players who are making hundreds of millions for their universities but it's currently the wild west and I do think that something needs to be done that is beneficial for everyone. With that said, it sure has leveled the playing field.

With that said, it sure has leveled the playing field. I could understand those arguments. I think before long they will have to sign contracts. It really would protect the players and the schools. But I guess what we have now isn’t any different than what we have in High School or the NFL. In the NFL there are contracts but there are a lot of 1 year contracts too. I don’t think any of the schools do a decent job of developing the players into good men. Having a team mindset has long been out the door with most players, and the change in continuity is just because we aren’t used to it. I mean if this was the way it had always been we wouldn’t know the difference.

My son's High School coach, a bammer fan, had a remark about it that you'd expect from a coach, but he is absolutely right. He said " Handle your business and you're in. They didn't handle their business".
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

That is why I don’t like the 12 team playoff. There will always be teams that didn’t handle their business that will be in the discussion.

I think there are still coaches out there whose mission is to help shape and mold players into good men and do their best to guide them down a right path while also building a championship team. But, just like parents who pour their all into a child to raise them right, sometimes they will listen to wrong people, get with the wrong crowd and make bad decisions. Plenty of examples out there. The portal thing irks me but Bama can also be the beneficiary of the portal too.
I saw an article that talked about how the Bama transfers fared this year. Isiah Bonds and Caleb Downs had good years and are in the playoffs. The other dozen or so had “meh” seasons and some didn’t do well at all.
I do think there needs to be some guardrails. That’s why don’t give a hoot about recruiting. 50% + of the signing class will not be there 3 years. Some not after 2.
I saw another article or heard it someplace that former Auburn QB TJ Findley is transferring to another team with 1 more year of eligibility. Guys, he was in the Bryce Young recruiting class. That’s messed up. Get on with life man.

Now with the extra covid year and redshirts you are seeing 6 year guys.

Like the NFL; they can still make as much as they want from NIL/endorsements.

A rep from the Arkansas collective is mad about Ole Miss taking their players and Tweeted that "Arkansas is becoming the Ole Miss farm team" Well; of course Kiffen immediately re-tweeted it; touché

Wew3006, I would think it would be more important to have contracts to deal with the transfers and the coaches lying about how much NIL money they have for them. Coaches are feeding high school kids a lot of dollar promises nowadays that never com true. If a player has a $500k contract with Boost Mobile that’s between him and them.

Agreed; there have been some rogue promises. Though I think deals with the collectives are probably getting more black and white as a result to protect both sides.

Kids want to play. I don’t blame them. Some are chasing a pipe dream but most of them could really go somewhere else and contribute. Coaches push a little to get a roster spot and scholarship open.
