This is first time I’ve seen a total failure on our place. I’m talking zero seen by anybody anywhere.

Same here in southern Greene County. I was counting on some swamp chestnut trees to produce this year as they didn’t last year, but only one produced a little early this season. Not enough rain I guess.

Jackson Co 0 we have over 30 sawtooth several white and red and a water oak or 3. Feed store guy said he’s seeing a record year selling corn. Way ahead of where he was this time last year.

I’ve heard a half dozen reasons over the years. What do you think causes failure? I’ve Heard everything from two droughts in a row to rain in June during pollination.

There’s a number of things that can cause acorn crop failures, but late freezes, which we had, severe drought and extreme temps, which we had, are definitely contributing factors.

Per Dr. Craig Harper UT Forestry Professor, they are cyclical on a 4 year "rotation" . If say a sever drought coincides the same year as the down cycle year , it's a complete or near complete crop failure .

Mtn Chestnut Oaks here at the house we're loaded, they still laying on the ground though. I reckon the deer don't like em. White oak behind the barn had a pretty good crop and does and little'uns hit em pretty hard.

I’ve hunted various areas of state and overall the acorns have been scarce. Bibb county along cahaba is none, autauga county along Alabama river was loaded, lowndes county along river was here n there, south Shelby was ok, coosa scarce, dekalb little river was good, and areas I traversed in Oakmulgee were scarce but my scouting there was limited.

My late drop live oaks are still going. Deer still eating the acorns. Funny how they take turns between the feeder and hanging out eating around the oak trees.
