Me and my buddy are going to try and pull the trigger on an Idaho Elk tag this year, any advice from people who have gone? Going to try and go the public land route but have never been on an Elk hunt anyone have any recommendations or know of any reasonably priced guides? Any advice is appreciated as I dont really know what Im getting in to. I have purchased a subscription for go hunt and I am beginning the research process now.

Get in shape early and be ready to cover a lot of ground........we did a DIY several years ago in Colorado and it was a blast, my buddy killed a huge cow elk and the pack out was long,if you can find on outfitter, I would go that route, I don't have any recommendations on guides.....I had a bull slip in on me and by the time I saw him, he saw me and bailed off the ridge into a huge drainage and I didn't get a shot off.....we covered a lot of ground each day just trying to locate them.....public land can be a challenge, but where we were, most people didn't want to hike that far in, definitely not pack one out.....
