I had a Chevy short wheel base 4X4, 350 engine. Tran blew at10,000 miles. New one made it for another 30,000. then it blew at 70,000.

I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....

Way more reliability issues than just the tranny. HMI modules, internal oil sensors, funky pumps…

I have the 2018 Sierra and the trasmission sucks. Worst shifting transmission I have ever owned. But I really like the truck and I only had one issue with the AC that was under warranty. It has 63k miles and I have bumper to bumper until 100,000. If the transmission goes out after 100k I am ok with that, not mad at GM. If I replace the transmission at 100k and get another 100k then I am ok with that.

But I only put about 11k miles on my truck every year.

We had 5 2019 Sierras running around the state. 4 had transmissions replaced around 120k, the 5th needed a transmission when we traded them at 180k and 1 of the 4 needed a second transmission. All 5 had the front end rebuilt at 80k and needed rebuilding at trade-in. They were asking double what we traded them in for, before they went to auction. That was just before the used market bubble had begun to rupture.

The transmissions going out is a standard feature on these units

Yep,this is the main one going out in the silverados, the thing they’ll get you on is they’re supposed to be serviced every 45,000 miles and I’m sure most of us don’t do that,I changed my thermostat a few months back because it got stuck and the temp got up on it,that’s what is killing a lot of them because they’re running hot and folks aren’t catching it and keep driving it and running hot everyday, mine has 105k on it but shifts good and hasn’t given me trouble yet

This article stated it is for the 8 speed transmission. What about the six speed. Are people having the same problems with it?

I was thinking the 6 speed is the main one that goes out. That's what I had in mine when it went out.

Every GM I’ve owned has had transmission issues and electrical gremlins. Apparently the lifters with the AFM in the newer trucks is also something to watch for.

He kills these transmission torque converters. Change the fluid every 30k even if you only pull a 4 wheeler!!!

I know of at least 5 including mine (all 2018 Silverados) that had the torque converter transmission replaced before 80K miles.

Torque doesn't get converted. grin

Yup...in our case, it completely locked up while crossing 2 lanes of a busy 4 lane highway. Had to get farm hand to push him out of the highway, bumper to bumper. Said there was a high pucker factor involved, until he was out of the highway!

My 17 sierra gave me fits after changing the fluid filters and temp sensor it actually smoothed out after being told by multiple source the tranny was shot and ready to blow up. However it started developing fuel issues after that and I traded it in for a ford this past weekend. Feels good to have a truck with no issues for once. At this point it be a cold day in hell before I buy another GM. We shall see how the ford does. I know a lot of people with the 16’/17’ that had a lot of tranny issues but also newer models as well.

Transmission in my 2012 model GMC Sierra 1500 went out at 137k. Got a brand new one for $4500 and it had blown up before I hit 140k miles. Thankfully there was a 100k mile/3yr warranty on the new one. Next truck I get will probably be a tacoma.

I lost my 2017 Yukon XL (6L80) at 125k miles, just BAM! and gone. It's got a Jasper in it, done by Nance in Huntsville. Very hacked off at how short a life it had.

My '99 Silverado was getting close to 300k on original motor/tranny when sold...

And don't get me started on that Yukon's factory defective crimp on the R123yf air conditioner, which also let go right about the same time...
