Honestly the more I’ve looked into all the others, the more I come back to man why should I plant something other than deer magnet for the money with the 1 bag per acre

I was interested n lucky 7 last year - first time to see it - never planted it

Thank for the pics. Not impressed with Lucky 7. With just under 4% of coated clover seed, you’re getting about 1 lb of actual clover per acre if those bags plant 1 acre.

I think there’s much better options.

At 70% wheat I'm not a fan of Lucky 7 .
I am a big fan of WMS Deer Magnet . It's built around Triticale and Black Oats.

I like the idea of the WMS deer magnet having a clover variety. We may try some of that. So do yall bush hog it in the spring? Does the clover establish enough to just overseed the next fall or is it a rinse and repeat, replant every fall?

I love WMS and have planted it for a while. But this year I’m doing the Craig Harper mix. Awnless wheat with crimson, arrowhead, balansa, and red clover. Will take a little extra effort but I think it’s actually cheaper and I’ll be getting way more food for my deer. Fought it forever but going to give it a shot this year.

We always spray the grasses in the early spring so they aren't competing with the clovers, once the clovers really kick off

Would you mind giving the pounds per acre of the mix?
I would like to plant it this fall also.

I’m using the following. It’s a little different but it’s what I’m going with.
50lbs per acre awnless wheat, 20 lbs per acre crimson clover,
5 lbs per acre arrowleaf clover, 5 lbs per acre of red clover. I may put another 5lbs per acres of balansa/berseem depending on the soil. This is not pure live seed rate, just lbs out of the bag. . I’m going to sling the wheat and crimson in the hopper and cultipack and then come back and spread the small clover seed. I know it’s not perfect but I’m going to give it a shot.

Local store has several bags left over from WMS Alabama Blend and Magnetic marked way down to make room for fresh seed. They have been stored in the store reckon what the germination rate would be?

I hav bought ladino clover - think 8# - about 20-25# of the biologic clover everybody was raving about on here and i think 8 pounds of the durana. Gone try to do more clover this year - got 4 fields. Prob buy 1 bag of magnet and the rest will be planted in this clover

All depends on the quality of the seed and how it was stored. As a general rule of thumb, I've always heard that the germination rate will be 20-30% less on old seed versus the 90-95% germination on fresh new seed. Also heard that coated seeds are much more susceptible to decreased germination with age versus plain uncoated seed. If it has been kept in a cool dry place and is marked down by 50% or more, you can buy it, increase your seed rate to overseed by 30-40% and probably still come out slightly ahead. If it has been stored in the heat and been subject to any moisture at all, I would not mess with it. There's not really any hard and fast rule. Might be fine, might be a bust but the above is a general rule of thumb I've always used.
