I just cleared a few plots for greenfields. 1-2 acres that I can manage with my Honda Pioneer 700-4. What is the best spreader for lime, seed, and fertilizer? I would like something with at least 100 pound capacity.

This is the one I finally splurged on. I went through 2 or 3 before I tried this one. It doesn't dump any seed until you start moving. If you stop it stops. The wheel base is wide and doesn't tip easy. I love it. A few buddies have the electric ones and they tear up all the time.

I have 2 Moultrie spreaders that I have had for over 20 years. The only trouble I have is when I spread fertilizer in them. The dust gets into the motor and it plays out. I usually keep a spare motor or two around and they take about 10 minutes to change out. Both of mine mount to the racks on my 4 wheelers and hold around 50-60 lbs max. I have been very satisfied with these two and hope they last for another 20 years. They should because there is nothing to go bad except the motor on mine.

I’ve had the same luck with the moultries. They work great but plan on swapping out the motor about every other year.

Moultrie has worked well for me. I haven’t had to swap out a motor yet. Going on year 4 next year.

Any issues with spreading lime through those?

Never done it with it so don’t have an answer. No issues with everything else.

I splurged and bought the stainless version of the Tufline pull-behind spreader. I bought the stainless to try to minimize damage when spreading lime and fertilizer. It will hold 24 bags of pelletized lime at 40 pounds per bag, though that is over its rated capacity. It is about 6 years old and there have been no issues.

When I use it for lime or fertilizer, it gets a good wash down after use. I keep a 1 gallon sprayer and an old mop to coat it with a mix of used oil and diesel after the wash down. I pull it t with a 900 Ranger.

I spread peletized lime with mine. It can get packed in the hopper and it will not want to feed if you load the hopper and drive very far before spreading. I have an old fan shroud that has maybe 1/2” squares that I pour any lime or fertilizer through to grade it and make sure there are no clumps that will clog up the holes. When that happens you will want to burn it.

You might get a couple of seasons of use with the Amazon one, but I’ve been through enough of them to know the gears don’t hold up to heavy fertilizer and lime applications (Brindly, AgWay, Chapan in the $250-350 range). I even found an AgWay with metal gears (most have plastic) and it didn’t last, either…inferior brackets couldn’t support the weight well and the hopper snapped off at the beginning of season 2 planting plots with it.
If you plan on needing it for years of use, go ahead and get a TufLine or comparable.

How do you attach that to the UTV? Mine has a ball hitch.

Add a trailer tongue to the spreader or change your hitch on the UTV to a "double duty" hitch like this...


Or, if there's enough threads left on the ball shank, cut a piece of plate and drill a hole in it for the pin to go through and mount it between the nut and hitch receiver

There are plenty of universal type UTV/ATV hitch inserts that allow all sorts of hookups/hitch types for practical use and not only moving a boat around the yard. Most folks have those, I’d think.
